    Obama lover. No thanks.
I used to listened to this podcast while in grad school. I never realized that this is just another brainwashed Obama loving liberal tuning it. Very disappointing.

    Closing music
I have to let you know that the closing music is very nice. The change is very uplifting to me and brings a smile to my face every time it plays. Your podcast by the way is the best of the many I listen to.

    Is host real?
Great podcast, engaging topics. Is mcreadys speech AI generated? Or computer read? I’ve always found it strange.

    Could be better
I’ve enjoyed this podcast on and off for a few years. Unfortunately, I can’t take it for more than a few episodes at a time because David, much like many amateur Hosts, he fills about 50% of the interview with his thoughts instead of letting the expert speak. It’s normal to want to engage, share your thoughts, and your “oh yeah, that reminds me of this” moments when you’re having a conversation. But this is a conversation for others to listen to, and we want to hear the expert. I often look at who is being interviewed and find them on another podcast where the host knows how to ask good questions and get out of the way.

    Eye-opening
David McRaney’s podcast has led me to read many books (including his) and introduced me to one of my passions (trying to learn how to listen to and learn from those who disagree with me—Braver Angels). I used to mainly read historical fiction—now I just can’t get enough social psychology and behavior science. And he does it all with humility and humor.

    Too bad
Great podcast but I wish there wouldn’t be a political slant with it.

    Thoughtful
This podcast presents in a way that causes me to stop, think… sometimes reframe. I always appreciate it.

    Unbelievably Flawed
This podcast likes to make claims on how the way other people think (pick your group) is wrong and that they don’t do research in an unbiased matter, while then spewing out opinions that are not proven or backed by facts or studies. Even some of the joke fringe groups they go after are more unbiased than this. I tried to give it a chance through multiple episodes since my homie recommended this, but you literally have to shut your brain off to not see holes.

    Dull
Like my grandmother’s butcher knife, you voice is extremely dull.

    Massive impact
Much of my understanding of identity, belief, critical thinking, and all around what it is to be a good, contemplative human being has been deeply influenced by this podcast. I find myself recommending it a /lot/

    Authors, look here!
David, I cannot begin to count the number of books I have purchased because of listening to your podcast. You bring so many interesting guests and points of view, and you feed my desire for learning. I even appreciate the rebroadcasts as they recall ideas that I can then consider with new eyes because of my growth. Thank you!

    Fantastic Episode, Fantastic Show
I don’t leave reviews, it’s just not something I do. But Episode 256: The Persuaders was so fantastic I had to make an exception. I always find YANSS’ topics to be excellent, but the guest on this episode, Anand Giridharadas, was so compelling and really explains the big problem with today’s political discourse. I loved it, very thought-provoking.

    Close… but not quite
The show is interesting when the host sticks to his knowledge base. There is a strong undercurrent of contempt, bordering on hatred, of everything and anything conservative thinly veiled by intellectual jargon and moral grandstanding.

    Always interesting
This is my favorite podcast. The topics and conversations are always interesting and enlightening.

IMHO the best podcast in existence… like hidden brain but 10x better
I have been listening to this podcast for years after listening to the book YANSS, which literally changed my life in a drastic way. It’s the only podcast that year after year continues to keep me engaged and excited for new episodes. Thanks for making it David!

    Thought provoking podcast
I stumbled upon this podcast and have loved it. The shows really make me think about how to apply learnings in the real world! Great work

    On the oldest episodes
I’ve seen a lot of recently negative reviews, so I just wanted to say, the oldest episodes are from 2012/2013. It’s a great way to connect back to the world 10 years ago and the host is the most genuine enthusiastic person ever, which is just awesome! Also just gonna say #leftisbest

    Favorite Podcast
I first saw David on the Atheist Experience, he has since introduced me to so many good books, thoughts, and ideas. This podcast makes me think. Thank you, David!

    Aha Moment Generator and Empathy
I love that David does a great job at manufacturing Aha moments. I love looking backward at a topic to see that I completely failed to acknowledge that there was an alternative to the way I was thinking. I am also rejuvenated by David’s sense of empathy. This comes up strongly in the episodes on conspiratorial thinking, COVID, etc. He provides a means of understanding the other side without providing legitimacy or correctness, but EMPATHY. I could listen to an entire spinoff podcast series on understanding “the other side” (that doesn’t make judgments or demonize other people).

    Massively overrated
I’ve seen this show mentioned and discussed and I can’t get over how little this show has to offer compared to other podcasts (especially other Science podcasts). If you like science and the content of this show, check out The Jordan Harbinger Show, which is similar but heaps better in terms of execution and has a more likable host IMO. If you’re more nerdy, also check out Ologies with Allie Ward. I think you can safely skip this show, as half is fluff/fawning over the guest and unnecessary sound bytes. It seems like this guy just wants to market his books as opposed to producing a great podcast. Yawn.

    Great stuff!
My favorite topic in a great podcast. ..And the intro music is amazing!

    Great stuff!
Love the contents. Also, David has a great voice which is easy for my ear.

My only complaint is that I wish there was more
I just wish I could have more episodes quicker. Love this podcast

Formerly great now a bit meh
When it came out, this was one of my top 3 podcasts. Somewhere along the line, somethimg happened. More guests using the "this is what I think" style with little data. Lots of obvious material (maybe, I'm getting smarter, but don't think so). There's some politics and selectiive use of data in many of the shows; all on one side. Finally, it's a style thing and shouldn't matter, but stop being so obsequious. Praising and fawning over each guest like they're the most brilliant ever while you are a mere peasant trying desperately to hang on, is just not right. You are extremely bright, not the expert, but you understand this stuff so stop acting like a 9 year old meeting Tom Brady. I'm dropping out for a while, but will check in again.

The guy in the podcast picture
I have an uncanny urge to punch him in his throat and I just can’t get over it.

    Topics are Great
Really like this podcast. It has introduced me to do many mind opening topics. I especially love the episode “how to talk to people about things”. I am getting frustrated with the amount of padding to each episode. It spends gobs of time giving way too much context and background when that can be done far more succinctly. David has also made the topics more about his personal reaction to the subject rather than the subject itself.

    So useful
I think about and talk about this podcast all the time because it relates to everything we do in life. It has helped me become a better person because I understand people—including myself—so much better.
  • nseibt
    Makes me a better person
I credit this show with making me more humble and realizing where my motivations come from and how to better relate to others. I’ve learned so much here.

    Great
I love David’s curiosity and attitude. I love the deep dives into relevant psychology topics. Thank you for making these podcasts.

I wish this podcast didn’t do the vaccine podcast. Disregarding so many legitimate concerns
Why would we need to convince individuals of this. Disregarding very valid reason for a person not getting a vaccine. You should have kept this as a vague changing people’s mind podcast. I listened but felt badly that we need to convince people to inject something experimental into their bodies if someone truly feels they aren’t ready or they have a religious reason. Just seemed to step over the line for me.

    Freaking smart
This podcast always makes me consider so something new. Love the long format and challenging questions
  • Wu tang for ever
    Mask episode.
More trash along political lines. When you say it’s fact be science regarding masks and vaccines that is not 100% accurate. The WHO does not talk about natural immunity it does not talk about getting outside it does not talk about eating right it’s solely focused on the vaccine and therefore Atlees any person who’s questions information, not just conspiracy theorist, to wonder if the information being delivered it’s really far health or for financial gains of those who have opportunity to gain from the situation. You don’t have to look very deeply to see the corruption within the government so to think that this may be part of the corruption doesn’t fall into the category of conspiracy theory if I was to the category of double and triple checking something before I put it in my body then why aren’t we telling the other side of the story. Lastly majority of the sound clips you played were crazy religious people which is really skewed and makes it seem like your information can’t be trusted either.

Hard to digest unless your looking to confirm your left leaning biases
Tag line “You are not so Smart” brought me in as we all need to listen and have more empathy and reasoning. Was disappointed as the words “cognitive science” are used to describe the show but in reality this is a pop-science with a heavy dose of personal beliefs (left leaning), logic fallacies and simply frustrating for a non partisan person who isn’t looking for a pat-on- the- back from University friends.

    Listener since 2015
Heard every episode, some more than once. Realizing the ways I’m not smart made me a lot smarter. Maybe one day I’ll be on and do an episode about behavior analysis and the money delusions people have! HMU Dave!!!! @funancialism on Instagram ❤️

    Awesome podcast!
Love this podcast! High quality content and fascinating to listen to! One of the best, if not the very best, psychology podcast I have heard.
  • uuid20200203
    Thoughtful
I heard the host interviewed on another podcast and sought out this one. He’s very good at sharing insights from psychology and cognitive science. Worth listening to, so far. Good production value for a solo show.
  • ndjdiwndhdks
    Guests are great
Has a tendency to get a little excited and talk over his guests too much. When the host has more air time than the guest...we all learn a little less. But, his excitement is fun, if frustrating.
  • dapperdude7
    WOWSA!
If the goal of school was to create free thinking citizens, we might teach them from the youngest age how the mind works, is manipulated by others and entrapped by its own flaws. And when they were old enough, I would encourage them to slowly and methodically listen to this amazing podcast. I have learned so much and it has made me easier to spot the errors in my human malware. The sad thing it has made me also see the cognitive errors friends, family and associates make every day.why is it sad? Because as I have repeatedly learned, most others are not motivated in the way I am and very few humans see the value in having their wrong habits of thinking pointed so. So I remain silent. Still, the value in doing your own work is worth it and I am glad I stumbled onto this podcast.excellent work!

    making sense of the world
I am so thankful for this podcast! I discovered it in 2020, just when I needed it most. So much of the world didn't make sense & learning more about cognitive dissonance, conspiratorial thinking, etc. allowed me to better process the chaos in the world around me. I've always loved asking questions & learning new things, & this podcast helps me to keep working those mental muscles. Every episode is equally interesting & relevant. Thank you so much for providing this amazing podcast. I will continue to recommend it over & over again ❤️

NPR called. They asked for their format back
Packed with irony, this Shod-Cast could pass as a sature of itself. “Everyone should be in therapy” says the host during an ad and endorsement for sponsor Better Help. Let’s please footnote that *every subscriber should be in therapy. I gave up radio to make space for podcasts and this one is a blatant ripoff of NPR RADIO. Anyone such as the host whom uses jargon and intellectual-type terminology in an attempt to sound smart exposes themselves as not smart. This is a perfect podcast for the intellectually lazy class. Thanks for the insight.
  • An uncommon one
    Consistently Superior
One of the best, most in-depth, podcasts to hit my feed. I relish the topics, the depth of the conversations and how David makes every subject, as approachable and timely as anything out there. It is so well done that even, after I don’t know how many years of loyal listening, I can finally stomach and even appreciate his choice in title music.

YANSS is one of my favorite podcasts
David explores the human condition in so many interesting ways with great guests and great conversations and insights. Keep up the good work and maybe have a cookie too ;)

    Smarter Now
I’ve “shared” this podcast more than any other. Amazing insight and compelling dives into being human. Although I just discovered it, I am going through episodes at an alarming rate. All I can say is-I need more!

    Never Not Interesting
I always leave an episode of YANNS bursting with new ideas and feeling like I’ve added new wrinkles to my brain.

It took me a few episodes but now I love it
My husband is a big fan and kept talking about episodes so I listened. Normally I love psychology, behavioral economics, etc, but for some reason I was slow to warm up to this pod. However, I’m glad I stuck w it bc I really look forward to the new episodes. I also think it is getting better and better!

    So Insightful!
This is my favorite podcast ever since I started listening to podcasts regularly. Constantly bringing new interesting stories, alongside insightful expertise, every episode presents a new way to interpret the world! Definitely an exciting and fun, yet curious and knowledgeable show.

    Amazing
Great show, I wish all shows could have the experts on. I can’t say I love listening to a man eat a cookie, however some of the recipes are bomb if you try them!
  • Strongbow73
    As with all things
I’ve read the books by the host and enjoyed them. I enjoyed the podcast. But of late the content and preachy delivery has made it one I skip or, more often, I abandon after I hear the NPR style of weeping SJW propaganda.
