Discovered 10 years later and it’s fantastic
As the title says, I am discovering this podcast 10 years since it ended and it’s one of my favorite Beatles podcasts. The only thing I wish is that I could hear what the guys thought about the release of the Get Back documentary and Here and Now. Gonna dive into the Sneaky Dragon podcast now. Thanks guys for putting this out there it was a treat to listen to.

    Edit out other host
5 stars for David, negative 5 stars for the other host.

    I can’t.
Ian’s self-absorption, constant interruptions, tangential musings, and love for the sound of his own voice, is distracting to the point of rendering this podcast unlistenable. I would never want to come across this man in my life. Thank God my interaction with him was relegated to a podcast that I quickly shut off once I realized what was going on. BYEEEE.

    Great podcast
I stumbled across this pod about eight years after it came out and have now listened to umpteen hours of Beatles trivia and analysis.

    Decent effort, but not great
They spend a lot of time talking about these albums, but overall their takes on the songs are very basic. Even when they divulge deeper into certain songs, they don’t seem to be adding much of anything to the conversation. All the time they spend on all the already well regarded songs could have been spaced out for more discussion of deep cuts. This pod is a decent listen for Beatles newcomers, but I personally feel like I’ve heard ALL of this information and opinions before. These two seem like nice guys, though. Not hating!

Awesome Beatles podcast! need to do a show on GET BACK!
UPDATE! Please do a show on the new GET BACK 3 parter! Love to hear your take on it! I loved every minute of it! I just stumbled upon this podcast with Ian and Dave seven years after they did it. So far listened to the first one on Please please me and the last album Abbey Road (my fave). Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the incredible insight knowledge from Dave on so many Beatles tidbits I never knew. Really enjoyed the breakdown of each album and each song on how the greatest band on earth put all these songs together for us to enjoy to eternity. Thanks Ian and Dave for putting this together. Can’t wait to get into all the others. Hope you guys do another podcast sometime! I can never get enough Beatles in my life

    good info
lots of interesting facts, but wish these two wouldn’t refer to women as “girls” in every situation. also guys, lyrics DO matter, A LOT. you sound really dumb saying they don’t.

    One quality host.
David is very good. Ian is very annoying.

    Perfect for a Beatles Fan
This podcast is a great listen for a Beatles fan looking to learn more about the history behind the albums. I’m sad I’ll be finished with them soon!

    Very Good Gentleman
I have enjoyed these discussions. I think they played off each other well. Anyone complaining, I challenge you to tackle your own Beatles podcast. Bet you cannot. I know a lot about these albums, but still learned many things. Thank you gentlemen for this series. Cudo’s.

Good Pod, Good tidbits, Bad Humor
This is a good and entertaining podcast, I listened out of sequence but that doesn't matter. I am pretty knowlegeable about The Beatles but I've learned some things. David is very good but stumbles sometimes trying to remember things. Ian is like the friend in the group trying too hard to be funny. That takes away from this podcast. If he knew when to tone it down but he interupts and goes on and on. I don't think I would listen if it wasn't the Beatles because of Ian.

    Best Beatles Podcast
Amazingly informative, entertaining, funny and the banter between the two is like spending time with friends. Highly recommended. And by the way Ian is GREAT. He is hilarious and makes the podcast much better. Don't listen to these people that complain about him.

    Free David
I would have rated this much higher if Ian wasn't on it. God, he's annoying.

    Toppermost of the Poppermost
Fantastic review of the Beatles albums and backstory. Although I am a 50 + year Beatlemaniac- I am still learning new stuff on here. You boys play off each other well. Completely Beatles led me to Sneaky Dragon - and I look forward to catching up in those. Keep it up guys! Love it! Danny Joseph

A Friend Said, “I’d love to turn you on”...
To this podcast, and I’m so glad he did. Lots of great Beatle history from a wide source of material. I wish you didn’t use the Goldman book but, Overall a thoughtful and entertaining look at the best in the world.

    Informative and Insightful
Ian is the casual fan, and David is the devoted one with extensive knowledge of the Beatles’ career. Also, David’s knowledge of the Beatles’ musical peers and successors provides valuable context. Some reviewers have criticized Ian’s role. However, I think his commentary and humor serve to draw more information and insights from David. The first two episodes are difficult at times as the hosts settle into their roles and develop a rhythm (and Ian drops the constant analysis of lyrics). If you stick with it, you won’t be disappointed. I believe even devoted Beatle fans will learn new information and be inspired to think more about (or rethink) their own beliefs about this beloved band. I hope Ian and David do another music-related podcast in the future.

    Ian has zero chill
If this were just Dave, a mostly well-informed Beatles historian, it would be a solid five stars, but good God, someone put a muzzle on this Ian guy. He's constantly interrupting, trying way too hard to be funny, and attempting to make connections that just aren't there. While listening to this, I can't tell you how many times I yelled "Jesus, just shut up!" Seriously, Ian... chill out, bro. And maybe do a little more research on your subject if you're going to co-host a podcast about it. That being said; thank you Dave for sharing your insight and knowledge of the greatest band of all time.

    Fabtastic
Wonderful, funny dig through the catalog. It is great from the get go, but they really hit their stride from about the third ep on, and it gets bonkers excellent when they start doing two hour episodes. Can't recommend enough - thanks for your work, gents!
  • RealTalkRyan
    Very Informative
I enjoy the banter and info about the tracks but I really wish they would play snippets of the songs. Especially the deep cuts, it gives a good flow to the track by track anaylsis instead of talking straight through. Still a good podcast though.

    Fun and informative!
Love the show. David is sharp and concise. Small quibbles with some basic history that is easily found in numerous Beatle books. (Dave Dexter's Capitol years, for instance). Mostly very well informed. Ian is a great sidekick and offers a newbie's perspective, which is a relief after listening to numerous Beatles podcasts with too many so-called experts. It was a great joy for this long time Beatle fan. Thanks guys!

    Beatletastic!
I'm so glad my best mate told me about this. Dusting off all my old beatles and listening chronologically (with this podcast after each album) was a brilliant exercise. It was great to revisit and remember why they are the greatest band ever and how much I love them, album by album. I'll spread the word (in a few weeks once I've heard the last 2 podcasts) p.s. The only thing missing from this comprehensive and fun look at the beatles is referencing Peter Sellers cover versions. She loves you... YA!

    I'm Only Sleeping!
I've never criticized a podcast but this one I must. You have David with his Beatle knowledge and insight teamed up with Ian who is always trying to be a comedian and/or objecting to the lyrics. Truth be told....I fall asleep to them. Don't need the sleeping pills anymore!

    Disappointment
Ian ruins this podcast. David should have hosted this project on his own. Props to you, David. You're a true intellectual and a dedicated Beatles fan.

    A great podcast
A very good listen for any Beatles fan.

    Awful
Love the idea but Ian just ruins it with his pointless juvenile drivel. I would so enjoy hearing the other guy share his knowledge but after one episode it was too painful suffering that bozo chatter of his. Bummer. Test your own pain threshold- give it a listen.
  • Jetthead67
    Excellent
Thoroughly impressed by this show. I shared it on various Beatles Facebook pages , as well as my own. I happened on this while I was looking for streaming Beatles music. Ian and David work well together. I love Ian's humor and David's knowledge. I'm going to check out Sneaky Dragons because I liked this so much. Thank you, David and Ian

    You Are Not That Funny
Dude, you aren't Groucho Marx. I have one guy making great points about the songs and being informative and another idiot auditioning a comedy routine. STOP!

    Fantastic!
Great job guys, Love every moment!

    Great Except for Ian
David is fantastic. Ian doesn't even appear to be a Beatles fan. He is there, apparently, just to stop us from hearing what David has to say. Would be a perfect podcast if David was solo.

    The details you didn't know!
A podcast with all the details you didn't know about the Beatles with a look at the music song by song. For the Beatles fan who wants to know how and why the songs were made. Listened to the whole lot of them. Good Job!

    the definitive Beatles podcast
So, these guys are brilliant, one an improv comic, the other an absolute genius and Beatles nut. They go through each album track by track, with very insightful, very funny, and very intelligent commentary on each song. I thought I knew everything about the Beatles, but I learned so much listening to these two Canadians. Highly recommend this podcast, and also their Sneaky Dragon podcast, which is equally entertaining. This guys are the best!
  • Bassman62
    A very good podcast...
...very thorough and well thought out...EXCEPT.... They treat every Beatle album as though it was a CONCEPT album. Pretty sure that with the exception of Sgt Pepper's LHCB, no Beatle album was a concept. And they pay WAY too much attention to how the albums are sequenced in driving home this point. I do love the track by track analysis.

    Compleatly Brilliant
I will agree with some other reviewers that Ian was a little annoying the first couple of episodes, but by A Hard Day's Night he really started to mellow out and find the right groove for the rest of the series. I thought I knew a lot about the Beatles, but I still learned many things about every album. This podcast is informative, entertaining, funny, and interesting, and if you're a Beatles fan you owe it to yourself to give it a try. If Ian bugs you too much, skip ahead a few albums, then maybe go back to the first few later. By the time I finished the final episode, I had enjoyed it all too much to hold the rough start against them. I'm eternally grateful that I kept listening. I wonder if maybe we could get some followup episodes someday, covering a few of the best solo albums, or the Anthologies?

    Incredible!
Thank you for a wonderful series. I remember buying the White Album when it was new and copying it onto reel to reel in 5th grade and bringing it into the library for all the kids to hear. The librarian thought we were listening to educational tapes but we were listening to Revolution 1 and why the hell was Yoko singing on a Beatle album!??? Anyway, I am nearing the end of the series and sad that it’s nearly over, sort of like buying Let It Be (I actually won it on the radio!) and realizing it was the last album. Do more! How about the first solo albums (you can skip Ringo’s first album - LOL, J/K). Gary

    Great Podcast!
Loved this podcast! Goes into lots of detail about all the songs on each album, and appreciate all Dave's context surrounding each album too. Very informative and entertaining!
  • TomWaitsFan77
    Does it stay like this?
I just listened to the first episode and enjoyed very much what David had to say but Ian just would not shut up and absolutely nothing he said was interesting or informative at all. Are the rest of the episodes the same way? Because I may not be able to bear it if they are. Edit - No, it does not stay like that. I guess it was just some bumps initially because they definitely work out the kinks (no pun intended) after a couple episodes. Now I’d say it’s essential listening for any Beatles fan. Great job Dave and Ian!

A truly awesome podcast especially for later generations
I am so glad that somebody decided to do this. As a millennial and wanting to truly know and understand a band that has been deemed the "best" by many, this podcast provides the context that has given me a deeper appreciation for their work. The recording innovation of their time is just something you cannot know unless somebody tells you. I do have a few critiques: first off, Dave, you are wrong about Run for your Life - I definitely agree with Ian on this one! Context, postfeminist, blah blah aside. John apologized for it, and not just for the bad music. Second, I wish there would be more of a focus on lyrics with certain songs; sometimes Dave focuses a little too much on how they were made and the lyrics are touched upon but sometimes brushed aside. Rocky Racoon and Come Together are examples. Finally, there were instances in which I didn't know what song they were taking about until midway through but I believe Ian mentioned this issue. Overall, amazing work! I have listened to some of them more than once just to give me perspective.

    Interesting Perspectives!
Good, good stuff! I first listened to the episodes of my favorite albums, Revolver and Abbey Road, and after getting hooked on the podcast, I listened to them all in order, and hit both of those again in context. Great job!
  • deveraux83
    Fantastic
One of the best music podcasts I've heard. Please continue to do more albums, whether it's solo albums, classic albums, whatever. Listening to you guys makes me immediately go and listen to that album, do more research, etc. Thanks again and please continue.
  • jvanbeeck
    Just great
I’ve listened to about half of these excellent podcasts and they are full of interesting details and anecdotes, all kinds of nuggets I hadn’t heard before, and I could happily listen again. I think there could possibly be room for discussion of the different LP and CD versions but that might actually necessitate another pocast, perhaps comparing tracks. But the main aim of these podcasts is really to put the albums in historical context, and it does a fantastic job of that. Well done!
  • gordrum
    50% Brilliant!
Truly, I love and hate this podcast on The Beatles. David is brilliantly informed and due to the depth of his research, has shed new light on The Beatles legacy. Ian on the other hand, his ramblings are both cringeworthy and alarmingly unfunny. I can only listen 20 minutes at a time because Ian’s constant interjections do my head in. I’m glad they put this entertaining series together – I’m also kinda glad it’s over.

Possibly the best Beatle podcast on the net. Very interesting and entertaining.

    Fun, so informative, and inspirational!
Ian and David are fantastic together, fun to listen to. Lots of good and solid "context" for each Beatle recording. Inspirational because it has me dusting off my library of vinyl Beatle records. (Bought my first in 1964... I was seven and bought it from an enterprising friend.) Thanks, guys, for all the work that goes into this podcast. Much appreciated!
