I want my “stinky pants, poo-poo” back!
The show, er programme is always exquisitely detailed classy review of all things cinema: present, trendy, indy, past, obscure, streaming, in Cinema halls, Drive ins, bedroom TVs, only on DVD or VHS, 16mm, only in your imagination. Excellent reviews submitted by listeners or just people hanging around movie theatres. It’s all there in the title! Okay April fools is over.

Don’t bother if Simon and Mark are away. Not worth your time.

    The gold standard.
I wonder if the incels complaining that the show is too political notice it’s categorized under Society and Culture. That might overlap with politics sometimes big fella. For the adults in the room, this is a fantastic show about movies (including how they might be digested by other people outside of ones own pea sized narcissistic brain). Thoughtful, funny, incisive, and brilliant.

    Comfort food for the soul
Just let them talk. Everything is going to be all right in the end. Also, discover films you haven’t heard of and music you haven’t heard of. (For instance, the Wombats, Pugwash, the Divine Comedy, and the Duckworth Lewis Method. ) Tickity-tonk, etc.

    5 star
I’m giving this 5 stars because they said we had to.

Please don’t bring up politics when it is not relevant.
I’m really tired of every podcast I listen to bringing up politics. I like to listen to movie podcasts as a way to tune out the news and all the harsh stuff that is going on. I would appreciate it if people would keep to topics they do know about.

    Best podcast of all time
I love this podcast. I’m a British expat and the gentle banter between Kermode and Mayo makes me feel like I’m back home. As a long term listener (LTL) I feel like I’m part of a community (“the Church”). Kermode’s knowledge of film is encyclopaedic, and he offers brilliant insights into specific films and into the art of filmmaking. I have immense respect for Kermode and Mayo and am so grateful for this funny, warm, interesting podcast. It’s like a hot cup of Earl Grey and a biscuit on a cold winter day. Tinkety tonk, and down with the Nazis!

    Relax Mark!
Mark, please relax! You’ve been on a rant since the end of March! Update: Mark, please stop splitting hairs with everything Simon says. I am exhausted! I may have to look for another podcast

Great for film lovers and others
An absolute must listen every week. The last shining star in the BBC’s firmament.

    they barely bother with women...
the great majority of interviews are with men...clearly what you’d expect from entitled, straight white men...so. so tiresome guys...

    I like the changes
Typically, Kermode and Mayo do the shows together, providing several hours of wittering along with a sneak preview of what is hitting the screens. The bantering duo often take their vacations at the same time, momentarily replaced with very talented backups. However, recently Mayo was out, leaving Kermode with the backup. The result was transformative. Instead, of snide comments and roundabout insults, the exchange between the two protagonists provided a meaningful insight into films that provided a greater deal of depth. Bravo! I hope these changes become permanent.

    Thanks you
I love the format to this show. At times Mark’s arrogance can send me nuts, yet I still totally respect his opinions. Thank you so much for these podcasts, they are my Friday highlights. Keep it up.

    Don’t miss out on this!
I have been listening to Mark and Simon for a decade, and I couldn’t imagine my week without them. This is a must for cinephiles, but even if I wasn’t a huge film fan, I would still love this programme. Always funny, always insightful, always heartwarming, every episode is an absolute gem. Their film reviews are essential, but getting to listen to their friendship has been the best gift.

How do you create a great movie podcast?
You just create a great movie podcast. But seriously, this is the best movie podcast there is. Mark is Britain's (the world's?) greatest movie critic and he and Simon have a great Statler and Waldorf-esque relationship. Hello to Jason Isaacs!

My heart leaps for joy when I see a new Wittertainment episode has posted. These fellas are heart warmers, and the movie banter is spot on.

    Simon good at interviews
Really enjoy Simon interviewing movie stars!

    Simply wonderful
This podcast is truly a community. It requires a commitment because the jokes are all for insiders. You do not need to love movies. The bantering and wittering of Kermode & Mayo, hosts, make it a special part of each week. Such a ray of sunshine!

    Funny nonetheless
Critics who say it’s getting stale aren’t completely wrong, but just as I decide to wean myself, I realize something is missing in my life. On the upside, the incoming emails are especially literate and hilarious, and I imagine inspirational to the hosts. I took a road trip from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Three episodes and I was wide awake and entertained the whole time. In my youth, falling asleep on the road was a risk, even in broad daylight; not a problem with K and M. It’s a church one doesn’t have to attend every week but it’s always there in times of trials and tribulations. I quibble with some of their movie gospel, but they have introduced me to films I would have missed, Pride being one. The Christmas anthems are the highlight of the season. I’ve never discovered a more entertaining movie podcast and if there is one, by all means, post it. Hello to Jason Isaacs and down with the Nazis and their minions.

    Initially Enjoyable but Ultimately Banal
I started out being amused and even considered myself a “Wittertainee” for while. However, after a a year the podcast got tedious. Kermode is too egotistical. The inside jokes got old and repetitive. The interviews are embarrassingly unprepared.
  • MrErcM
    What even is this?!?!
Far and away the best podcast about movies. Come for the film reviews, stay for the surging river of delightfully silly in jokes and hilarious listener emails. Soon you too could be saying hello to Jason and ending a phone call with, “well, tinkity tonk, and down with the nazis.”

    Used to be a favorite
I loved the rants, the reviews, some of the interviews and even the bickering. Gave up on it about 9 months ago because the bickering just never ended. The hosts are clever, but they're not comedians and it's gotten played. Also, the movie analysis seems to have shrunk a lot. I'll try them again one of these days and hope it's been tightened up.

    Great range of reviews
I always look here first to find out about the latest movies coming out of Europe. Also good coverage of independents and, of course, the block busters. Only complaint is that it's become a bit rambly since they moved to 5 Live; however, it fits with the general eccentricity of the show. The substitute reviewers are also fantastic. Robbie Collin is a special favorite--I had to order The Ghoul from the UK after I heard his review.

    Hello to Jason Isaacs
This is one of most favorite shows. However, iTunes has done something awful to the archives which caused several of the shows to be truncated in the middle of the show and some actually have content that is from a different episode than what is supposed to be there. For those damaged shows I just go to my kindle and use the awesome app I have there to play the correct content. Apple has really let us down.

If I could give this podcast a 0 I would!
These guys are so negative! These guys are the perfect example of why so many people hate critics! They have lost there LOVE of movies! They consider it a chore now! They refuse to find anything good in a film and just become cruel about it! There is enough hate in the world right now! I don’t need to hear a rich white man scream about a film and how he waisted his life watching it! While literally getting upset! Life could be so much worse but let’s focus on how horrible it is to write movie reviews and talk to actors! Don’t listen to these guys unless you want your blood pressure to go up!

    Hello to Jason Isaacs
This podcast has been a companion on days off as I've padded around my apartment or running errands around town. I've even found myself thinking about it at work once the headphones are off and Mark and Simon are no longer present. I love their slight Sherlock/Watson relationship, their genuine affection for one another, and the enthusiasm for films. Mark never stoops to malicious attack against a film (unless the directors name rhymes with Lichael Ray) I originally started listening for my favorite actors interviews, but eventually fell in love with the hosts of this show.

Been a fan for a long time. Very witty banter. Great for films too.

    Mostly Annoying
One of the hosts is very annoying. Occassionally they have a good 4 star show, but most are 2 stars. I can't believe some of the movie talent they're able to inverview, you wouldn't think anyone would give them the time of day.
  • Margo 1274
    Really entertaining!
I love this podcast! Takes a bit to get into and you have to get used to very fast English accents but once in you will be saying "Hello to Jason Isaacs" and much more. Wish I could watch the show in the USA but cannot get the app for it here. Brilliant, hilarious, addictive.

The smart, funny, charming banter of these two reviewers makes me happy every weekend.

These two are one of a kind (wait a minute...is that possible??)
This podcast was recommended by Glen Weldon on NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast back in March. Since then, I've listened to ALL 286 episodes. I only wish that there were 286 more to listen to. Mark and Simon have introduced me to all sorts of movies that I would never have considered before hearing their reviews...and I'm not even kidding. This podcast is dead amaze and totes emoji. And, of course, hello to Jason Isaacs. Seriously, everybody should give this podcast a try. Your life will be richer and a lot more fun
  • GreedoL4D
    Not about movies
I've been listening for years, honestly. But this show has devolved into something that feels more like a chore to listen to than something entertaining. This show is almost litterally 75% listener emails, 20% interview, and 05% movie reviews. How can they call this a film review podcast when almost the entire show is just one guy reading out printouts of emails? I want to hear Mark's opinion of movies, not total strangers. I really like Mark and I value his opinion on film, but I can't subscribe to this show any more. It's no longer about movies. I think what I'll do is find Mark's video stream and watch that for film reviews.

    and hello to Jason Isaacs.
This is my favorite podcast, hands down. The banter between Simon & Mark is hilarious. The reviews are candid and I usually agree with what Mark says. Best of all, I have discovered a whole new world of movies which I would never have seen if not for this podcast; my Netflix queue has gotten much, much longer. If you love movies and middle-aged men bickering, this will provide hours of entertainment!

    First Timer. Kinda.
I started listening to these amazing men about a month ago when I searched up "Helena Bonham Carter" for maybe the 8th time. I saw that she was being interviewed here, got it & FELL IN LOVE! I am more of a fan of Simon because Mark is just a bit too hating. Sorry. I now listen to them non-stop for laughs and interviews and the occasional agreement with a movie review. I tried e-mailing them & texting them but nothing. I wish for them to read what I sent them. Maybe next time. KEEP GOING SIMON "FOZZIE" MAYO & MARK "QUAFF" KERMODE!

    Friday favorite
I leave for work every Friday before this downloads, so I have all day long to look forward to listening to this podcast Saturday morning during my dog walk to choose which movie I want to see that weekend. Smart, funny, and spot-on with their reviews. I love Mark's reviews and I especially love his rants, and I have played the best rants for my family to enjoy. My two boys are 14 and 12 and we have a blast distinguishing the difference between "rubbish" and "pants." I am a colonial commoner and this podcast is the best weekly movie podcast out there.
