Best in Class Video Game Podcast
This is by far my favorite video game podcast. Since I discovered it a year and a half ago, I have listened to every single episode (that’s over 230!), and I can attest that every one is a winner. The cast has changed many times over the 11 years that Not Your Mama’s Gamer has been around, but every change works like magic: longtime host Sam Blackmon never fails to find new co-hosts that are uniquely charming and bring new perspectives to the table which revitalize the energy on the podcast. Shout out to Jordyn and Victoria, the two current co-hosts keeping the faith! But make no mistake, Sam is the hero of Not Your Mama’s Gamer. She is a modern-day Renaissance woman: college professor, Twitch streamer, single mother, social activist, alcoholic beverage connoisseur, book club host, inspirational mentor, lifelong gamer, and staunch advocate for the value of scholarly research on games and games culture. Before I listened to this podcast, there was a part of me that was always ashamed of my passion for video games. I bought into our dominant cultural narrative that games are nothing but a waste of time. But every time I listen to a new episode, I remember that there are people who are much more assertive and much more accomplished than I who reject that narrative in favor of a firm conviction that games are important. Hearing those voices helps me let go of my embarrassment and feel free to just love games. It is liberating. I cannot recommend Not Your Mama’s Gamer highly enough.

    Entertaining and Brilliant Criticism
This show is such a perfect blend of relaxed, fun round-tabling and sharp, vital games criticism. Samantha and Alex are brilliant, engaging hosts. Where so many gaming podcasts are simple reviews or fancasts, NYMG isn't afraid to get dig into the important ways that games impact our lives and culture.

This is My Kind of Academia
I love this podcast - the centering of feminism, PoC, and lbgtq issues produces each week an exciting, thought provoking, and important critique of an entertainment industry and art form that impacts so many and yet is often treated as “child’s play.” Thank you to all the wonderful contributors to this podcast!!

    Smart, funny, and refreshing
As a female gamer, I have just resigned myself to the fact that I will be listening to male dominated and centered views on the things I care about. I have only been listening for the past 6 months and I am still find myself shocked how different, carefree and intellectual this is from the other gaming media i consume regularly. This crew knows what they are talking about, they aren't afraid to go deep and call out the BS. Please, keep up the amazing work!

    Timely and Funny
Long time listener. Love the show and the fact that they cover tons of timely topics. Their interviews are great and they bring a lot of different kinds of guests on the show. I hope they stick around for a long time.

    Underrated gem
I don’t listen to many podcasts, but I never miss this one. Sharp commentary on games and culture. Really love in-depth episodes like the one on Life Is Strange, and great interviews, too.

    Excellent perspective
I had the good fortune of being interviewed for this podcast, and really enjoyed my time on the show. The line-up of women are insightful, address all manner of sensitive topics professionally, yet also have fun and make you laugh. What I appreciated the most was that even though we had a difference of opinion on a couple of topics, it was discussed calmly and with respect--the way it should be. No voices were raised, and no names were called. These ladies are as legit as they come, and whether you're a man or woman, you're bound to be entertained.

    Serious stuff
When I was a kid, I always wanted to be the dude on the back of those issues of Nintendo Power. You know the guy: buzz cut with a sweet mullet, walls plastered with posters of Mario, Link, and Samus. I always envisioned myself as that dude, resting my tired LA Lights on my stacks of EGM and Nintendo Power, one hand in a bag of Cheetos, the other inserted into a PowerGlove. I thought about how I'd yell at my sister to go fetch me more Dr. Pepper while a my hyper-color t-shirt morphed colors due to the perspiration dripping from my body as I knocked a dude out in a jousting match in Skate-or-Die. Alas, I was never as rad as that dude and I had neither the ability nor the disposable income to emit such rad-itude... But listening to this podcast is the closest thing to being that rad. Are you rad?

    Better late than never!
The issues raised in these podcasts are ones every gamer--be they social, competitive, casual, whatever--should be aware of. In a field dominated by masculine tropes and gender stereotypes, the NYMG women bust open a can of knowledge every episode, drawing on their academic and gamerly backgrounds, to open up insightful and important grounds in the games we enjoy. Also, they give away free stuff from time to time, and that's awesome!

    Feminist Gaming Podcast
Found this podcast after hearing about their Deus Ex contest, and I'm glad I did. Feminist voices are highly needed in the world, and even more so in the world of gaming. The hostesses of NYMG are very knowledgeable on their subjects, but the mood of the podcast is more of a discussion between friends than that of a college seminar. This is both a strength and weakness of their shows- it is relaxed, and seems like it would be accessible even to newbie gamers or newbie feminists. However, it also comes off a bit lengthy and unpolished. (For the purposes of full disclosure, this comment is an entry in the aforementioned Deus Ex contest.)

    Insightful stuff!
This is a great podcast; I wish I hadn't slept on it as long as I have. The voices and perspectives of the hosts are ones that would leave the white/cis/male-dominated games industry (and--ditto--gaming culture) in a much better place, were they more widely heard therein. Tell your friends; this podcast is one worth subscribing to.

    Fun and Informative
This podcast as all about women's issues in gaming. The three women who host are all college professors or grad students, so they have a unique academic angle as well. Anyone interested in gaming, feminism, or listening to smart, funny women should subscribe.
