This Little Light

401

Hosted by Flea, founding member and bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, This Little Light is a podcast about falling in love with music. Flea interviews musical guests from all genres to discuss the teachers who guided them, the influences that inspired them, and how the lessons they learned as young musicians have shaped their creativity, resilience, and careers. Guests range from legends to rising stars, and include Rick Rubin, Patti Smith, Thundercat Margo Price, and Cynthia Erivo. The podcast is produced by Cadence13 and Parallel, with proceeds benefiting the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a Los Angeles-based non-profit that Flea co-founded in 2001.

    Music Education at Its Finest
Thank you to Flea and the Silverlake Music Conservatory for championing music education in a beautiful and loving way. The importance and gift of music education is priceless and I’m grateful for Flea’s commitment, bravery and vision in manifesting the school and this podcast to support their important work. The legendary music educator and jazz musician, Horace Tapscott would be proud! May your love light continue to shine ever brighter.

A must listen - profound and lovely
Thank you, Flea for having the ability to release a podcast in an overly saturated podcast world that has the ability to penetrate the listener immediately… you’re such a rare gem and hearing these conversations (the Kiedis one is extraordinary) is such a gift to us all… fans of music and humans.

Great podcast about the creative process
As a writer and bedroom musician, this is a great podcast that sheds light on the foundations of the creative process. There are some big name guests here, but even those you may not be familiar with are interesting to hear. Everyone has a different background and approach, showing how there’s no “one” right way to be an artist. Obviously this podcast is about music, but the wisdom also applies to other art forms as well. Highly recommend!

    Music love
The conversations Flea has with these people are amazing. Flea is so personable, it feels like you are sitting there in the conversation. Flea’s love of music and attention to the stories makes you feel like he would love for you to share your own musical journey no matter the level of significance.

    You’re a parent? Listen.
I’m a father of three wild boys. We play records nonstop at home and we have a deep reverence for the magical energy that is music, but my rebellion against my own musical tutelage at a young age leaves me unable to teach my children an instrument. Over and over, between Flea and his guests, I pick up tips on how I can facilitate a healthy way forward for my children…musically, yes, but in so many other ways as well. These conversations are loaded with wisdom. And humor, and inspirational nuance, and so much more. These conversations are worth listening to for anyone who values the myriad ways music enriches our lives.

    Love it
Listened to your first one with Rick Rubin, it’s so cool they way he views music. I’m no music person but am a fan and hearing him say, as accomplished as he is, to view music first as a fan in very refreshing and cool. Great job!!

    Extraordinary!
Heard about this podcast from an ad on NPR and had to check it out. I learned so much about Flea as a musician and he excels as an interviewer. Draws out his subjects and touches on legit music theory that is so relatable. Music as connection and inspiration comes through. Loved it!

    Fascinating
For those of us who chose not to be in a band or didn't find our way into an orchestra, this podcast takes my musical mind in so many wonderful directions.....and I'm so grateful that you, Flea, and your guests DID do those things! Love listening, great podcast! Thank you

    Fun podcast
It’s a very fun podcast to listen to. There is a good diverse selection of musicians on here. It’s SO hard for me to make it all the way through a full episode without having to break in and listen to the artist that’s being interviewed.

    Jewel episode
Flea, thank you for having Jewel on! I have always wondered about your guys back story and seeing a video of you playing bass on YWMFM on a tonight show. It was interesting to hear her talk about learning her high falsetto voice when she went to that school because- I really do believe that her falsetto voice is otherworldly and angelic and the way that she uses!! it I’m curious to see what she does next.

    The world needs this!
Thank you so much for bringing this concept to life. As a music, lover and musician, I absolutely love hearing about the creative process, the learning process, etc. The Thundercat episode in particular hit me where I live! I heard that episode when I really needed it, it really resonated on so many levels. The positive voice Flea brings to the world is so appreciated, & now more than ever in this time of such serious divisiveness.

I’m trying to fill my head with more positive things and wow, this podcast is spot on! Listened to Patti Smith first bc I love her (thanks to the “introduction” by Michael Stipe), but I will listen to them all. Keep it up, Flea!

    Hugely inspiring
Wow, thank you so much for creating this! I devour all music documentaries and interviews but I particularly love the angle of this. I’ve only listened to the Rick Rubin one so far (brilliantly corresponding with reading his book) and it was massively inspiring. I am a musician and really valued the conversation and it definitely will enrich my own journey in music. I’ll be listening to every one that’s for sure. Thank you again!!!

    There when I need it
Firstly, thank you. You and your band have always been there for me when I need it the most. I felt this podcast was a gift from the cosmos as I’ve been going through a challenging stretch emotionally and am excited to have new RHCP content to ease my mind. I particularly enjoy the free form nature of this podcast. There is no agenda and there are no right answers. It’s simply natural conversation between musicians who each have a unique understanding of and approach to music. I’m looking forward to future episodes. And until the day I get to pick your brain over coffee, these chats will suffice!

    Love Love Love ❤️✨
When I heard that Flea was premiering a new podcast- dedicated to music - I subscribed RIGHT AWAY. Flea’s insight on the love of music is so genuine and pure, and as a artist/musician + music lover, feels so cathartic. After hearing the first episode, I’m so excited to hear more future interviews with other musicians/artists. Everyone’s story and journey is so unique! This also feels like an extension or continuation of Flea’s autobiography that came out a few years ago - which I thoroughly LOVED. Thank you Flea + crew!!!
