    Blur episode was tragic
Typically like this podcast, but just a massive miss here. I’m a huge Blur fan, can’t say Chris Ryan is. He doesn’t like 13, Modern Life Is Rubbish or The Great Escape? You all managed to miss talking about the best song on every album minus Parklife and Leisure. I give Yasi credit for being open-minded to giving them a listen and copping to not being a fan. I also agree with her take about Brit-Pop, not really a genre. Also Chris was like, “who are the Gorillaz” just lol

    Best band podcast ever
This podcast needs a Pulitzer Prize or something. So many deeply researched stories of so many greats in music interwoven with humor, rawness, and passion in each band highlighted. Long live Bandsplain!

    Yasi is A Great Host
Yasi Salek makes great episodes on a bunch of bands and musicians that I’ve never heard of. I love listening to her tell me about music. I also love that she brings in a deeply empathetic view into her episodes, something that can be missing from other people (ahem) talking about bands. She also actually engages with the lyrics and musical content which is very informative and educational for me. 5/5 but it’s a infinity/infinity type podcast! Great job to the Bandsplain team!

    I’ll definitely be back
I listened to the Paramore episode because Hayley recommended and it was totally worth the listen. It was an incredible dive into the evolution of the band, its members & their social dynamics, their albums, what was going on culturally around those albums, it includes music clips to really bring you there, it gave me everything I wanted and more. I nearly listened to the whole ~3hr episode in one sitting but had to take a break just to drive around and listen to Paramore’s After Laughter album only to immediately return to the episode after this drive to finish listening. Really liked the hosts and production. I’ll definitely be back for more of this podcast. Love, The Miss Guided Astrology pod

    #1 podcast in my household
Seriously…my husband and I live on different sides of the internet (and we listen to very different podcasts), but Bandsplain is always one we listen to together and discuss at length. I am super stoked to hear a woman talk about music after spending my whole life listening to dudes talk over me about music. You’re the best, Yasi!!

    Love this show
Started listening to this show about a month ago because I saw that Chris Ryan sometimes guested. Listened to him and yasi breakdown pavement for over three hours and thought I had gone to podcast heaven. From there, the smiths, the clash, and the doors. That’s all I’ve gotten through so far, but that’s because of how in-depth Yasi and her guests go into bands. Super informative, and I love that yasi plays full songs along the way. Consider me a fan. Probably too much to ask, but would you please do an episode on the stone roses???? In the meantime, I’ll keep mining the treasure trove of your past episodes.

Changed the way I think about music
Who would’ve thought a podcast could inform my music taste? I love this show, and I love rock n roll!

    THANK YOU YASI
Wow I’ve listened to a handful of episodes but this most recent pt. 1 on Soundgarden with Hanif was literally life changing! I’ve never found a home with rock music, just songs here and there. But exploring Soungarden’s discography has been such a revelation. Thank you so much for your passion, your work, your humor, your “babe”s, your attention to detail— you’ve successfully indoctrinated a Black-Filipino 27 year old into to the wonderful world of alt rock and grunge. (Personal favorite so far is hands all over) 😤

**Bandsplain Bliss: Dive Deep, Discover New Tunes, and Ditch the Vocal Fry Critics!**
Bandsplain is an incredible podcast. Yasi, the host, is funny, sassy, self-aware, and thoroughly prepared. I love diving deep into a band's discography for hours, and this podcast has helped me discover new bands and get to know some of my favorites even more. I've even purchased books she mentioned, especially the one that shaped her formative music years. Now, my playlists are awesome, filled with hits and B-sides. Reviewers need to stop noting her vocal fry; it's irrelevant and immature. Highly recommend!
  • Uncle Paul1
    Holy vocal fry!!!
The concept of the podcast and subject matter are great! I immediately downloaded 4 episodes and saved them for a rainy day. Today happened to be that day. The woman’s voice on the Alice and chains podcast is almost unbearable.. her Brittany Sprears esque vocal fry is ear piercing. It sounded like I was hearing my teenage daughter talk to her friends.

    Eww
Her voice is the worst. Nooo!!

    Avocado Rules!!!
Yasi’s podcast is excellent. Entertaining, thorough, well researched, funny. This would be 5⭐️ but I am deducting one for the wrongheaded trashing of Pearl Jam’s Avocado 🥑 album. This album is career defining, rocking, banging, and a favorite of many 10Clubbers. Ya done messed up Yasi! Great podcast for bands you don’t know or your favorites! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑

    Terrible Host
This is an incredible concept for a show but this host is terrible. Her vocal fry is annoying. It’s really noticeable if you listen with ear buds. She could chill out on saying ‘babe’ a little, too.

    Love the show
I only started listening to Bandsplain around April 2024 and have gotten so much out of the show. So much research goes into the episodes and hearing it through Yasi’s words is hilarious. The show has enriched my life, I really enjoyed the episode about the Breeders and haven’t been able to get the song Cannonball out of my head. I heard about the podcast in The Week magazine for being a good podcast. I’m sad that show will be on hiatus but hope that whatever Yasi embarks on is fulfilling and if that’s in the public sphere that I find her again.

    Solid digest of f rock…
This show is so entertainingly informative and educational. The host is engaging and listenable. BUT…the episodes are too long! Break them up into series as opposed to expecting someone to dedicate 2 to 4 HOURS for one episode. Break them up or edit out some of the chatter to present the bulk.
  • Strickly Kev
    Fantastic episode on The Breeders
I’ll give Title TK another listen, thanks Yasi!

Yasi and Producer Dylan put on a great show
I don’t also agree with Yasi takes (she doesn’t like Fanclub’s Howdy or Afghan’s In Spades geez) but she is super passionate and you will learn new things even about your favorite bands. Highly recommend.

    Yasi 🔥🔥
Not sure how I heard about this podcast but gave the Pearl Jam Part 1 a listen and Yasi is a treasure. Found myself just cackling at her entire vibe (I know Kevin Clark from The Ringer podcasts and he’s a mainstay of course). Hope she continues to elevate to more podcasts (tv, movies, all things pop culture) over the next few years - she is a MUST for the Rewatchables too, KC!

    Really sad commentary babe
Horrible reviews, babe. You have zero clue, you should be reviewing fast food not music.

    Yasi you’re wrong
Love the pod, I was 18 when Jane’s Addiction changed the world. You’re wrong about this Pearl Jam Pod not being for the diehards. I was hooked from the first time I heard the riff to alive on the radio, 50 shows and 3000 miles later, at one point owned every bit of vinyl from Benny to blue Vs. And this podcast is very much for me. Quite a bit of stuff us diehards don’t know being laid out here. Like every show you bring out the deep cuts. ❤️

Yasi is the Deepdive Research Queen
Love this show. Yasi is so funny and spends a wild amount of time researching the bands.

    This show is Gorgeous!
Yasi’s show helped me recover from surgery .I’ve learn so much about bands I thought I was the biggest fan of and appreciate groups I felt mid about. Smart, witty and a can’t wait to hear more.
  • Kelseyday
    Great content, horrible host
I couldn’t get through the No Doubt episode because of all the “babes” and Yasi was downright condescending to the expert on the Phish episode. I’m not a Phish fan either, but the disdain with which she approached the episode made me wonder who was holding her at gunpoint forcing her to discuss this topic. She openly admitted she had done zero research. How offensive to her guests. Immediate unfollow.

    Yes but
I’ve only listened the PJ Harvey episodes so far (but that’s 8 hours of listening) and I’ve learned a lot and pushed past some podcasty turns of phrase that I find annoying. But I must protest, the mispronunciations on this show are awful to hear. Rakim as “Ra-keem”? Cillian Murphy as “Sillian”? Calling Roland Barthes as it looks rather than with French pronunciation doesn’t bother me much but these other mistakes are upsetting. I don’t expect a rambling podcast to have the precision of industry journalism, but I still hate hearing it.

    Great concept, bad host.
Great deep dive into some of the best music ever made. Unfortunately, listening feels more like a chore then a choice.

Discovered for Jenny Lewis, Loses 1 Star for Rilo Kiley
Found this while searching for Jenny Lewis podcast appearances. What a great idea to divulge into a band/artist, and then later become an interviewing musicians pod. I've listened to a handful. I LOVE the Jenny Lewis and Liz Phair episodes. You lose 1 star for your Rilo Kiley episode. Around 2:33:45 when you discuss the Spanish titled song “Déjalo” from Under the Blacklight (2007), it was cringe to hear the “The Spanish really set me. I was like, ‘Oh no,’” comment. It may not be the greatest song, but it’s not the Spanish that makes it bad. Really disappointed by that comment. Reminds me when I went to see The Breeders in the late 2000s IN L.A. and two white girls behind me were making similar comments when they played, “Regálame Esta Noche.” For the host being/living from/in L.A. that was a disappointing remark. Other than that, I’ve enjoyed listening to deep dives into the Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis, both Liz Phair episodes, NIИ, & Joy Division episodes. While listening to the RK episode I realized a big part of the appeal of Jenny Lewis’s solo career for me were the Liz Phair influences in her work. Bravo.

    Hard to listen to
Trying to slog through THE SMITHS episodes…it’s unstructured, long, unprepared, meandering, retells the story of both biographies of Marr and Morrissey with little additional insight. What insight they give is surface. Often you find yourself feeling like you’re in a bad conversation at a party and are desperate to remove yourself but out of politeness you stay. Ms. Salek is so amused by her commentary she can’t help but giggle repeatedly at her own comments, as if stoned. As there are faces for radio, her and Naomi’s voices are for newsprint. Vocal fry from Salek and a nails on the chalkboard propensity for Fry to pronounce “ngk” for every gerund spoken. Prime example of why everyone should not have a podcast.

    No choice but to Stan.
Thoroughly researched. Tons of context. Just a great show all around.

    Yasi Queen!
I love a slightly younger much cooler person’s deep dive into the music of my golden era. Yasi makes my early pre-dawn commute feel so much better. She is incredibly bright and articulate, and truly does these bands justice. Some amazing guests, including Rob Harvilla. Great eps to start with if you’re me include The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins. Love the long, often 2 part eps that pull me down the rabbit hole and let me just marinate in a band for a week while hanging out with Yasi and guest.

    “peanut buttah!”
For someone who’s devoured every Behind the Music and book on any musical artist I’ve been remotely interested in, this podcast is perfect. Yasi is hilarious and makes it fun. I now have something to listen to on drives. I do take umbrage with her saying she doesn’t know the difference between an acoustic song and electric (I’m pretty sure.) cmon Yasi, don’t sell yourself short about your musical knowledge. It’s also great when she makes Rob laugh (re:talking heads episode, maybe it’s in more, I only just started listening after all.) a hold steady episode too? Jessica hopper?! Courtney Love likes this podcast for f’s sake, what more do you need?!!! 🙏

    Good concept, poorly executed
Change the hosts. Made it through 15-20 min of the Depeche Mode part 1 episode and I just couldn’t take it anymore. Great concept, love the idea, and there’s definitely an audience for this, but the hosts… “like, kind of, like, whatever,… “ the overall smug, condescending tone, the overall large sweeping judgments on things you seem to know very little about, and the explicit language to prove what? It really detracts from a great concept. It almost felt as though I was listening to two high school kids giving commentary on their parents’ music, as if they’ve been through that experience/time and somehow could’ve/would’ve done better. This one’s not for me.

    We’re not worthy
It’s been a long time since I’ve been so utterly delighted as when I devoured both parts of the Talking Heads deep-dive. So thoughtfully researched and overstuffed with heart and wit. I can even forgive you two for calling Naked “mid”. I audibly gasped and pearls may have been clutched! But how boring would it be if your opinions were in lockstep with mine? I love the perspective. The indulgent ear candy of your show makes the occasional bitter pill go down smoothly. More please!

    Maybe play some music?
It’s a music and band review podcast. Maybe playing more than a comically short excerpt of a song wouldn’t be so bad. And I agree with JGEN-X, cut out the gen-z slang.
  • He who shall remain nameless
A music podcast with no music?
I’m listening to the u2 episode. Every time they stop to play an excerpt of a song being discussed it only lasts half a second. What are we doing here?
  • problemaddic
    I am instantly obsessed
Just listened to my first episode on my favorite band, The Clash featuring Brian Fallon (singer from another one of my favorite bands. So good! Great research. Great insight. No I’m clearing my schedule to listen to more. Amazing music podcast

    Gift of a podcast
This is the first podcast review I’ve ever written and I’m writing it because I love this podcast so much. It is so smart, informative, nostalgic, and just plain awesome. Pixies were my gateway drug into this rabbit hole. I pulled the car to the side of the road when KXLU in LA played Bone Machine and that was that. The Pixies episode was amazing. I also saw the Breeders open for Nirvana, and was at a Pearl Jam show the night Kirt killed himself and Eddie announced it from stage. You’ve brought back so many memories. Requests: the Breeders, Nirvana, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Built to Spill, Phoenix. Maybe also on history of Coachella. Thank you for this gift of a podcast. 🙏
