    Not all actors should podcast
That being said: Scott and Zach add a lot by way of BTS, sharing their own reflections. Scott is especially articulate. I’m all for banter, and many podcasts do it well — but there is an art to it. I have to agree with a previous reviewer: Mae is insufferable in that 1) she doesn’t add much and 2) portrays a sort of ownership over the show and the two guys in a way that really alienates the listener. It was a struggle to continue, so I stopped. Switched over to Stacy and Derek’s podcast rewatch, which has the banter and the information balance down pat. (I had heard Stacy as a guest several times on the Gilmore Guys podcast, so I knew she would be good.)

    Texas Forever
I’m an actor. And I’m a talker. I love this podcast and love listening to other actors talk about their paths and careers and ups and downs. That being said, Mae Whitman is insufferable. She makes me want to talk a lot less about a lot of things….Know when to stop talking. But please come back. I need yall to keep going as these podcasts get me through my shifts at work. (Just come back without Mae, PLEASE)

    Great podcast
Really love this podcast and the insights provided as to one of the best shows. Love the humor and side stories listening to former cast members.

    Mae is Unbearable
I really enjoyed Friday night lights and was excited for this podcast. Scott is incredibly articulate and Zach is interesting sharing his experiences but Mae is so woke I can’t even stand to listen to her. The show would be much better without her.

    New Year, More Episodes?!
Please come back! I need more recaps from you all, as well as interviews with other former cast members. I particularly love all the behind-the-scenes details that Scott gives each episode and the dynamics between the three of you.

    Love the podcast
I’m so happy I discovered this podcast!! I was a huge FNL fan and now am reaching watching the show along with the podcast and enjoying it all over so much again. One of the most underrated best shows on tv and I’ve been enjoying the breakdown of each episode.

    Hope They Come Back
I only just discovered this podcast and was enjoying it…didn’t know it had stopped. :( Hope it comes back! I LOVE FNL…one of my top 5 shows of all time, that I rewatch at least once a year. So good. Come back!

    I tired
I really wanted to enjoy this podcast. After binging Derek and Stacey’s I was excited about this one. Unfortunately it isn’t a hit for me. Mae brings nothing to the table, often interrupts with irrelevant things, and all together just brings you out of the magic of the show.

    Really miss this podcast!
These three were incredible collaborators and I looked forward eagerly to new episodes.

    Please stop, Mae
I really enjoy this podcast, but Mae keeps me from giving it five stars. We get it, Mae. You’re in the “biz” and have been since you were a kid. You’re not the main character. While I appreciate her fandom, Mae comes off as insufferable and somewhat condescending at times. I enjoy the episodes without Mae much more than when she’s on.

Absolutely loved this podcast really hope it returns
I am guessing this had to do with the strike or at least I hope and that it returns soon

    NO MORE MAE
I love Mae but….. I don’t like her for this podcast. She brings nothing to it.

    Amazing
I so enjoyed revisiting this amazing show and listening to the amazing perspectives and stories from our three wonderful hosts. Please try and comeback to us soon, and please keep us updated.

    NEEDS TO CONTINUE

    Ending so SOON? 😭
Noooo! I’m so sad. This is one of my favorite podcasts. So much fun to have you guys on in the background while I’m moving around the house! Please come back!! I want to hear Scott Porter break every detail of every episode (LOVE that as all true fans would!!), hear Zach’s commentary, and the listen to the delightful banter between the 3 of you! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE renew the contract!!

    Wonderful Podcast
I started listening because I loved FNL. I kept listening because of the hosts. Their rapport, humor, insights, and honesty were so refreshing and entertaining. They clearly love and respect each other but give each another just enough of a hard time to reflect true friendship. I looked forward to this show every Thursday, and I’m really sad it’s ending. I hope it finds a new sponsoring company!

    favorite trio
Discovered the show a few years back but never got around to watching it. One of the YouTube videos for the podcast popped up on my recommended a little while back which prompted me to start watching again and I binged the whole show in two weeks. Absolutely fantastic start to finish - no series has ever had such an emotional hold on me the way FNL has. It’s been so cool getting to listen to behind the scenes stories and get to know Scott and Zach’s personalities and how they fit their respective roles in the show. I was already a fan of Mae so having her on the podcast is just a bonus! Your guys’ chemistry makes it so fun to listen and I look forward to every Thursday. I was bummed to hear you guys will be taking a hiatus and hope the podcast finds a new home soon! Until then, thanks for all the laughs!

One of the best rewatch podcasts
You can tell the hosts care about releasing great content for us. The hosts give us nice analysis of the episodes. And with the strike happening they still found a way to keep us entertained. I hope they find a new partnership so that they can continue the podcast! Much love!

Please come back!!!!! It’s like listening to old friends ❤️

Go not make the kissing sound somewhere else
Just terrible. And the unoriginal commercials that blister every commercial section really take it over the top.
  • jscharenbroch
    Great pod / Question
Love the podcast. I have two questions. 1) It seems like all actors when they start out have another actor who always go for the same role, who are yours? 2) Who do you get mistakenly recognized as? Or funny stories about that interactions?
  • santadelf
    Love the real school facts!
I love all the behind the scenes details. I love all 3 hosts and all of their perspectives. I love how it is messy at times and goes off on tangents.
  • Smart palate
    Better now!
I’m really enjoying the strike content much better!!! I think it’s due to Scott NOT holding the reins quite so tightly. His rigidity kinda puts a damper on the usual episodes. They are comparable to sitting in a class about FNL and Scott is the very strict teach who refuses ti deviate from the lesson plan. But Mae, idk if you’re eating an apple or a carrot, but whatever it is… please don’t! It’s AWFUL!!!🙉

    Question for the Pressbox
Do you ever step back to think about what impact other roles have on how a character is perceived? For example, I watched FNL super late in the game (i.e., 2023). So Scott Porter could do no wrong having already watched Hart of Dixie and Ginny & Georgia (and also I really wanted Cress Williams’ character to have a serious redemption arc), but I could not figure out why I didn’t like Saracen until I realized it was because of Zach’s role in Criminal Minds. And so Mae doesn’t feel left out, I had the great idea to start watching Parenthood and it left Hulu just as I finished season 2, so ugh…

    Fun and entertaining podcast!
I really enjoy this podcast and listen every Thursday, now that I have found it! After Midnight Mass, I decided I probably needed to see everything that Zach Gilford has done and the first thing was to finally Watch Friday Night Lights. FNL is such a great, show! I could watch it over and over again so It has been fun re-watching it with you guys and hearing your stories. I love the dynamic between the three of you and each of your personalities. When I started the podcast I had never seen anything that Mae Whitman had done and then...Good Girls (Zach Gilford). I was so charmed by her in that show, and appreciate her even more on the podcast now. You guys have managed to keep it fun during the strike but my favorite episode so far is the one with Gaius Charles because I loved his character so much on the show, and I figured he would be an interesting guy. I look forward to each new episode so thanks, and keep up the good work! PS-thanks for saving me 20% on my Liquid IV. I drink that regularly and you have to buy online to get the good stuff :-)

    My all time favorite show
For the most part, I’m enjoying the podcast and I’ll continue listening to it. The insights have given me a different level of appreciation for this show. I’m currently rewatching it for the 4th time now! I would give it 5 stars but Mae just isn’t my cup of tea. I’m sure she is a very nice person but I just don’t like her in this role. I think she doesn’t add value and takes away at times from the podcast. These are just my personal opinions I’m sure she has fans out there I’m just not one of them. Also feel bad for Scott at times. It feels like he’s trying to herd cats from time to time. However I absolutely love FNL and I want to know as much about the show as I can to give me a different level of appreciation for the show that I love so much.

My fav podcast about my fav show!
Question for Scott, since we’re in strike mode and the podcast has taken a different direction for a while, I learned that you, Scott, are a sleep walker. There’s another “unmentionable” with the initials HOD, that your character (GT) was sleep walking. Was this written into the episode because of your personal life or just a funny coincidence? Also, I was happy to see Mighty Mouse, Donkey Kong, and Meatball together again, made the world feel right for a bit.

    Love Scott and Zach….
….but this podcast is so chaotic and a struggle to listen to. I love the deep dives, behind the scenes memories and hearing how special Scott and Zach knew the show was even as they were shooting it, but it would likely work better and be a more efficient listen without Mae. She is exhausting. She is constantly going off on her own tangent while Scott is standing on his head trying to get back on topic and keep the show running. Just Scott and Zach and an occasional guest from FNL, this would be a 5+ star podcast.

    FNL lives…
Writing to you from ATX, the land of Texas Forever. Thank you for the podcast. Love the insights into the show and bts. Scott - Rewatched 10 Years last weekend, what a cast, literally a dream team. You were so good in it. Scotty P back from Japan ripping the Star Spangled Banner! Keep up the great work Zach, Mae, and Scott! Sincerely, Corey

Love the podcast, but would be better if Scott, would let Zach and Mae get a word in.

    Texas Forever!!
So glad I found the podcast after IG stalking Zach Gilford during a late night binge. I'm watching for the 1st time despite FNL being a prime series of my teen years and it has captured my heart! Im loving listening to the podcast and hearing the behind the scenes stories. Thank you for a beautiful show!

Scott, any Disney World stories from when you lived in Orlando?

Even without talking about Blank Blank Blank
I would listen to these three talk about anything! Still a top notch podcast!
  • Rckris
Love the show and the podcast.
My only issue i have is the noise they use to bleep out the cuss words, that said something very little in the grand scheme of things. I get it a football noise but lot of time doesn’t really match up. Other then that love how yall break things down and give us different insight from just watching the show.
  • Double Dare Danielle
The Texas-sized elephant in the room
Is no one going to bring up how Scott’s voice sounds eerily similar to Marc Summers? My 90s Nickelodeon nostalgia cannot be contained. Can we set this man up with a reboot of Double Dare, stat?

    Ideas during the strike…
How about FNL trivia? Maybe have a panel of former cast members and ask them trivia questions. Listening to several guest stars, many haven’t watched the series since it aired originally. It would be fun to see if someone really nailed some of the questions. For example, what phone number is written on the dry erase board at the hospital (or maybe rehab) when Jason is released? Jenny 867-5309. I caught this when it aired originally and cracked up. I have never heard anyone mention it. Another idea might be trivia with some fans via Zoom or something. Maybe make the winner the Slamming’ Sammy Meade trivia champion. One more idea is maybe an episode where our hosts give a well thought out description of what each character is doing now. Every town has people in it that are self made and seem to have loads of money because everyone in town knows him and likes him. Riggins marries Tyra, who is on the town council and she eventually becomes mayor of Dillon while Tim owns several rental properties and other businesses. Each character MUST have good stories though :)

    Texas forever!
I love re-living these episodes with y’all so much, it brings back all the nostalgia. I’m loving all the guests that have come by and spoken, it’s so great hearing about their stories and how much the show meant to them. As much as I love everyone, you know I’m waiting for Taylor to come on. We need Riggins!! ❤️❤️ love y’all and thank you for the insight and behind the scenes info!
  • Nick_1984
    Love the show!
If you need a topic during writers/actors strike can Zach talk about his horror roles? He has done quite a few now and would love to hear about his experiences on them.

    Writers Strike Question
Hey all - love the podcast, love the show that cannot be named. My question(s) for you all in this moment is: what has this strike been like - in comparison - to when you were on *the show* (younger, newer to the industry, maybe not having written/produced anything yourself yet) versus now (older, more experienced, maybe now having written/produced)? How has this changed your perspective on strikes like this? How do you think this experience for young actors today is different from when you were young actors experiencing it?

The Impact of the Show on My Life, Thanks, and a Chance Encounter
Just wanted to send a note of thanks for a couple reasons, not the least of which the show had on my life. High school football was a formative experience for me. It was also a successful one, going 58-2 in Kentucky High School Football and winning a state championship in each of my four years in high school. It helped shape the man I am today. While I didn’t initially get a degree in education—broadcasting, actually—the show reminded me of my love for high school football and the impact the game and coaches have on youth. As the show ended its run, I made a decision to change careers to become an English teacher and a football coach. After more than a decade of doing both, I’m now a high school principal in Central Kentucky. Without the show and your contributions, I would have not followed a passion into education and coaching. My life would be very different now. Thank you. Also—and completely random—I once met Zach outside of The Price is Right on my first day in a short stint in LA as a CBS Page. Season 2 just finished airing. I geeked out over the show at what was an inconvenient time, and he couldn’t have been more kind—even when I mentioned how much high school football meant to me. Your kindness sold me even more on the show, which already meant such a great deal to me.

    The Girl is on Fire
Absolutely love this podcast - I’m also the world’s biggest fan of Mae Whitman, she’s legit my favorite human. I know I’m not the only one who heard it, but I’m the 7/13 episode, she mentioned her boyfriend??? Girl spill! The boys talk about their wives and kids, but we need some spice from the dating world! Side note, my question for everyone is, what scenes or episodes (if any) were the most difficult for you and your partner to watch, and which are the hardest for yourselves to watch?
  • meating_aura
    Podcast question
A question I’ve had for a long time, and I know this would defeat the purpose of the whole show but how do you think every character changes if Jason Street is never paralyzed, would Matt have quit football, would street have made the nfl and would he have had a successful nfl career, would smash have been as highly touted without the entire offense being based around the run?
