Deliver Us From Ervil

164

In the 1940s, a group of Mormon dreamers started a town in the Mexican desert. But what began as a utopian vision quickly turned sour when the founding family’s son, Ervil LeBaron, struggled for control of the community and unleashed a multi-generational crimewave – the ripples of which are still being felt today.

From bank robbery to drug smuggling, auto theft rings to multiple murders, a deadly cult evolved into a sophisticated organized crime family. In Deliver Us From Ervil, journalist Jesse Hyde tells the story of Ervil LeBaron and the unlikely ensemble of reporters, cops, survivors and family insiders trying to halt his bloody legacy.

Deliver Us From Ervil is produced by Novel for iHeartRadio.

    Ervil
Brilliant journalism. Difficult conversations handled with dignity and respect….it’s been a while but the most profound conversation with the host and one of the females (apologies for being so vague) is when she is describing how much she understands the women who take their lives for the reward of heaven and love of their God. I’m butchering this moment….she’s uncomfortably poignant (listen and you’ll get it). I’ve passed it on to everyone I know. Stunning honesty, phenomenal podcast

    Loved it
Great podcast with so much research and insight. I’ve recommended it to others and it’s definitely worth sharing.

    False Information
This series is mostly fabricated. I know the Chynoweth’s and the LeBaron’s very, very well, including folks who still live in MX in the “Colonia.” And much of this is highly fallacious. He doesn’t exactly speak to anyone in the true know.

    In-depth, interesting, true crime
I’ve been more interested (obsessed) with the flds and their history. I knew the really rough outline of what happened in this situation, but wanted to know more. This podcast really gives a breakdown of what happened by many people who experienced it first hand.

Podcast logo is misleading and that matters because
it depicts the print version of The Book of Mormon, published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has almost nothing to do with the content of this podcast except that it explicitly condemns the kind of behavior described in it.

    Unfathomable
Never have I listened to a podcast that was so impactful. It rocked me to the core & I’m not even Mormon. It’s a deeply moving psychological study into the human psyche and the resilience that some found.

    Unbelievable
This was an amazingly fascinating story. I had to keep reminding myself it wasn’t fiction. I have told several people they should listen to this one.

    Fascinating
This Podcast is bingeworthy! I loved the writing the narration and the interviews. I had little to no knowledge about the facts of this story-I really enjoyed learning about it!

    More Polygamist Killers
Another tale of evil Mormon polygamist killers bringing their Disney religious nonsense to the good people of Mexico. They're all in a cult. This pod has too many commercials and normalizes goofy Trump loving behavior as religion

    Stop beating a dead horse
Ervil has been dead over 40 years. His descendants do not form a part of the Mexico colony. Any recent/current cartel wars or other violence needs to stop being dramatized as linked to Ervil. Even mentally ill people deserve to be allowed to Rest In Peace.

    All Around Ace
The writing, music, editing, and narration are all in sync to make you want to even listen twice.

    Story could be told better
Narrative bounces around making the story hard to follow and the ridiculous amount of ads and recaps in every episode really takes you out of the story.

    Slllooooowww
I was interested in the topic but he drags this out. Gave up during the third episode.

    Can't really stop listening
This podcast draws you in. It's as if you're living the whole saga of the LeBarons.

    Good story and sneaky ads
There’s an over abundance of ads in each of these episodes and they all sneak in without warning and go on for many minutes at a time. I’d really like the provider to focus more on providing the story at hand and less on selling other content.

    Well done story telling
I enjoyed that the narrator is Mormon and able to relate to the people being interviewed throughout. Narration is great.

    Gripping story telling
The podcast includes so many rich details that makes you feel like you are in each scene. I also really appreciated that the host has a Mormon background. He is able to bring in some important context that I think someone without that background would have missed. Great podcast overall.
