I listen to podcasts as I make long drives. Today is my appointment to finalize the estate of my dad. I was 64 when I found him, and 65 when I lost him forever. I am thrilled that Deanna is about 1/2 my age when she found her family. She has hope of getting to know her dad. She got to meet her grandmother, and cousins. I heard her pain. Like her, I had a rough childhood. Darn, I never thought of a boarding school. For me it was the magic of summer camp that kept me sane. How did 7 days just once a year save me? We create mental shields to protect us until we can escape abuse. I once thought I was the only one. Then I found out my baby brother had a different father. Then talking with friends, many have revealed similar stories. There are millions of us. I’ve joined an NPE group. Strangers connected by empathy.

This is a safe space for those who, through a DNA test, find out that their birth father is not who they thought he was. Understandably, it is a terrible shock but sometimes the worst is yet to come when the reaction of the mother is denial and anger and/or the real father and his family reject the truth. The host of this podcast had her own DNA surprise and her understanding and the care she puts forth toward her guests is to be commended.

A gifted and talented interviewer, Alexis allows her guests to share their stories in a thoughtful and supportive way. Although everyone’s story is unique, Alexis’ podcast demonstrates universal truths about the importance of identity and how we come to know ourselves across the course of a lifetime. For all of Alexis’ guests and so many others, the search for identity took an unexpected turn, usually in adulthood, a time during which most of us feel secure in our identity. The guests who courageously share their stories and sometimes shocking experiences offer a gift to all in the NPE community and beyond.

Your podcast has been a lifeline, an inspiration, and an affirmation at various times when I needed it. Your gentle, yet direct questioning makes for honest and heartfelt interviews.

I can’t thank you enough for your wonderful podcast, me and my daughter can’t wait till Tuesday when the next one is released, I found out about being a NPE Feb 3 2020 at 54 and it was so much of a shock, your podcast helps so much hearing other peoples stories and finding out I am not alone, my daughter and half sisters are listening too and I sent the info to half sister that will listen hopefully, you are helping so many of us, that our devasted and heart broken over our discoveries, and thank you more than I can tell you for telling my story ❤️

I have laughed and cried with so many of the stories shared. I feel understood and supported. I was having an extremely difficult time and it helped ease some of the heaviness on my heart. The host says so many things that are untrue. These people are beyond immature and pitiful as they claim and latch on to other families. The host has this quivering voice that is impossible to listen to. This whole idea of an ‘npe’ is ridiculous along with the language.....her journey her truth... connecting .... reaching out.... therapy .... omg lol.... nut jobs. This host acts like no one understands except others like herself. News flash !!! We understand we disagree. These people are loony toons boohoo poor me.... poor npe me.😎🤮. Don’t waste your time listening to this.

The stories Alexis’ shares with us helps us, NPEs, know we are not alone. She asks the questions we all have. She shows such love and grace as people share their journeys. Listen if you are a NPE or if you have a NPE I’m your life.

Thank you Alexis for this podcast! I found out I was an NPE on the same day in July ‘21 as you. Hearing everyone’s stories has been so cathartic and affirming for my own feelings on this wild journey.

There are no 2 stories alike. I’ve enjoyed listening to these stories and may someday send mine in. Being an NPE is difficult, especially because unless you’ve been through it, you can’t possibly understand.

This podcast has moved me in ways I did not think possible. I have laughed and cried with the storytellers. I am not an NPE, but I have learned so much through these shared experiences. I commend these storytellers for their courage and tenacity. Alexis is a perfect host, and her story was the perfect ending for Season 1. I can’t wait for Season 2!

When I found out about my DNA surprise almost 2 years ago, I had never heard the term NPE and had no clue there was such a large group of us. Listening to others share their stories has been such a normalizing effect. I felt seen. It has been a great help in healing. I also just find family stories, especially the secrets they keep, very fascinating to listen to. This podcast is a wonderful listen and a great experience. I am grateful for everyons courage to share.

As a fellow NPE, I love hearing others stories. It is so helpful to see how we all get through this crazy aspect of our lives. Perhaps its good for our family members to listen too so they can hear others perspectives on how to help us.
