Yiddish and Chill

40

In the wake of the COVID19 pandemic in 2020, these are my quarantined "coffee talk" conversations with my Aunt Blanche. Aunt Blanche is calling in from her apartment in the Upper East Side of NYC. I reside in Boston, MA. We learn a Yiddish word of the day, how to incorporate Yiddish into daily vernacular, and discuss Jewish Pop Culture. We are taking a hiatus from recording currently but would love to hear from you! :-)Any suggestions/comments/feedback can be sent to: yiddishandchill@gmail.comhttps://www.instagram.com/yiddishandchill/

    A True Feel-Good Podcast
My family started listening to these with the hopes of picking up a few Yiddish words to surprise some elderly family members. We quickly fell in love with Blanche and Rebecca, and finished the entire series. The program is informative, funny, and touching all at the same time, and makes for a light and easy listen. Highly recommend!

Cute and fun but not entirely accurate
Title says it all. The idea and banter is cute and fun however the meaning of the dialogue is not 100% accurate. You get the gist and meanings are loosely correct. For context I’m a 30 yo American woman. I grew up being spoken to in Yiddish. My family speaks Yiddish, myself included. And I took Yiddish in college. That’s all. But like I said a cute and fun listen if you want to “learn” some new words/phrases.

    A Great Find
My daughter and I discovered this podcast on her last day of a visit. We listened to 6 episodes. It made us so happy. I hope there is more to come. The words reminded me of how my grandmother used to talk.

    A mensch among menches
Things I learned listening to this podcast (in addition to Yiddish vocabulary) - Governor Cuomo is a snack - Never put lox and cream cheese on a raisin bagel - Blanch is a star - Rebecca is g’shmak, as sweet as fresh baked bread. Thank you for this joyful podcast in a dark time.
