SweetTraciGreatClear, Concise and Easy to listen to.

Auron RenouilleExcellent show, very in-depth.Loving the level of detail that is going into this - it’s quite granular and, once the host gets his seas legs, the narrative episodes tend not to be boring at all (I’m not personally a huge fan of the interview episodes, all of his guests are experts in their fields but I suspect that not all of those guests excel at, say, teaching undergrads.😇) That said, it’s absolutely worth a listen solely for the core narrative! 😀

The Accountant 41GreatFantastic show with an awesome delivery. Strongly recommend!
-
IndyMikeBBGreat Learning HereHis knowledge is astounding and his mellifluous British voice adds to the experience. This offering is a must listen. Do yourself a favor and start listening. From a rebellious Colorado subject of the English crown, a nobody of Thornton who merrily paints miniatures while listening, thank you for great, scholarly, entertaining hours of content.

AmRadioGalExcellent Podcast!Went back to the original ‘cast and am into year two. Details all the information you should’ve been taught in school (I am in America)-without having to become an English History Major. Do wish it was completely chronological, but understand the reasoning behind why it diverts at times. Definitely recommend!

Me741Rule Brittania! This podcast is a wonderful history podcast. It covers an era not yet covered by history podcasters.
-
RealCRHExcellent podcastThis is an extremely entertaining and enjoyable history of the British empire with a very erudite host, who are the same time shows a good sense of humor to lighten things up and keep them interesting.

Mark From Brooklyn, Ohio, USAUSED to like this podcast….I’ve liked this podcast for a long time and here recently, the commercials are so much louder than the rest of the show it is truly disturbing. I can’t listen anymore…. WAS a good podcast…. RUINED by ads

TrippleMuffinTop NotchAbsolutely informative and engaging. A great topic choice albeit difficult to explain at times. Sam does a good job breaking things down and providing a cohesive narrative.
-
Spronce33Good history pod, could do without the witchcraftI love this as a history podcast. It’s worth a 5 star review. I’m only giving 4 stars as Samuel likes to recycle witchcraft content from his other podcast and it doesn’t fit or add to the narrative. I skip the witchcraft episodes entirely at this point.
-
_mbgt_Excellent ShowI’m only on episode 14, but can recommend this both for content and excellent delivery. Listening is always a pleasure Except…. I beg you, please, please, FIND AN IRISHMAN. I wince sometimes at the pronunciation…
-
Mr. Buster!Great companion to the Forgotten Wars PodcastIf you come away hungry for more history of the British empire after listening to the Forgotten Wars Podcast’s season about British involvement in South Africa, then this is the show for you. Scores of episodes documenting the evolution of the British empire

RFK1976Great podcast...but where's the Empire?Pax Brittanica is a very good but possibly misnamed podcast. Samuel Hume is an affable host deilvering well researched episodes on the History of Stuart England. It's become a mainstay in my weekly podcast queue and is well worth a listen. "Waitaminnut...History of Stuart England?", I hear you say, "I thought this was a podcast on the History of the British Empire?" Well, that's the one main quibble. For a podcast obstensibly about the rise and fall of the Brisitsh Empire, there's precious little Empire to be found here. I know it's early days yet, but almost all of the narrative focus so far is about British politics centering around the House of Stuart in the 17th century, ie the growing conflict between the Crown and Parliament leading to the English Civil Wars. Only a handful of episodes deal with the people and events occuring in the colonies. As a listener I'd prefer it if the ratio was the other way, ie, 10%-20% of the narrative dealing with the happenings of the British Isles for context, and the rest dealing with what was going on in the growing fringes of the Empire and the nascent colonies. As it is, this is a podcast about the Stuarts, not about the Empire. Don't get me wrong, the material Mr. Hume is producing is great stuff. But for now, at least, he seems more interested in describing the foundations of the Empire rather than the Empire itself. Because of this, I recommend finding some companion podcasts to go along with Pax Britannica. For instance, Robert Van Ness's Virginia History Podcast is currently covering roughly the same time period but focuses solely on the colony of Virginia, with only passing mention of the politics in England.

I like drakeCaptivatingOne of those great history podcasts that mixes narration of the events as well as nuanced historical analysis. Mr. Hume’s enthusiasm shines through!

CFlatsDadA new regular in my rotationHaving started with Lars Brownworth and the Eastern Romans about 3 or 4 years ago, backtracking to Mike Duncan, then finding all the history choices from great podcasters, catching up from the start is hard. I’m still on episodes from 2016 in a few. Pax Britannica is at a starting point. I’m looking forward to tracking this one in real time.
-

ThugsAndMiraclesWow!This show is tremendous! Smart, well-delivered, great sound quality, and given by someone with an obvious passion for the topic; I can’t recommend this history podcast enough!
-
RHG podcastA top-tier history podcastThis is the real deal. It’s well-researched, engagingly presented, and provides the appropriate depth for someone wanting to really understand the subject. I would rate this on par with Mike Duncan’s History of Rome and Revolutions. I hope this project is seen through to its completion, whichever arbitrary date is set!
-
Reggie the VeggieA “cracking” podcast“Blimey!” Pax Brittanica is “ace!” The “chap” who hosts the show is no “tosser;” he’s a real history “boffin” but still keeps the show engaging. “Bob’s your uncle!”
-
Soup!!One of my favorite history podcastsLooking forward to the English Civil War
-
David H. MontgomeryGreat research & presentationSam hits the sweet spot for history podcasts: thorough and balanced historical research paired with an engaging writing style and smart delivery. It'll teach you a lot about the period without being either sensationalistic or boring. Highly recommend!

Evan WMAlex McBeanExcellent History podcast. Entertaining and informative. I’m also learning about the context of the lives of my scotch Irish ancestors.
-
Nigel St.WhitehallTight prose with injections of rye levityI thoroughly enjoy this podcast. The overall effort is well researched. The delivery is clear and concise, and yet the host keeps the tone from becoming too dry by weaving in bits of rye asides. The podcast takes the subject seriously without taking itself too seriously which can be a tricky balancing act in amateur history efforts, but one this show clearly has mastered. So far with such a far ranging and huge topic as the British Empire the host has managed to keep each episode connect to the whole. Five out of five spicy meatballs.
-
theflyingdogLove it!The standard of excellence continues! Informative and succinct. Always looking forward to new episodes! Love the music too! Thanks for a great product!
-
A.CassandraDavisWell worth a subscriptionMr. Hume produces a well researched history podcast. Presented in mellifluous tones, the subject matter is easily followed by trained historians and teenaged students.
-
B. T. NewbergExcellent Show by a Veteran PodcasterIf you've ever wondered how the British Empire came together and what it brought to the world, this is the show for you. Sam Hume does a great job, drawing on experience from his earlier show, The History of Witchcraft. The quality level is there, both in content and audio quality.
-
Sue7Great for an ignorant YankeeI'm really enjoying this podcast which I heard about on the History of England podcast. As a person who spent most of my educational time in science I never cared much (nor learned much) about history. In my 60's I'm trying to catch up with almost no knowledge base. This is very straightforward. Much as I love HOE the level of detail is sometimes a little much for me. Thank you Samuel. The slower pace in episodes 8 and 9 is preferable so please keep it up.
-
stren09ExcellentVery well researched, very well presented and very detailed. A great place for someone who knows little about the British empire to dive in.
-
warswickThe Empire Strikes BackAnother new podcast on a topic that is needed: The British Empire. Surprised that no one had decided to take on this topic until now. Sam does an amazing job and I can't wait for more episodes. If you are a history nerd like me, this should be on your list of regular podcasts you listen to. Do youself a favor and hit that subscribe button!
