Regarding Episode 118 - Geeky Girl
I’m sorry, but I have to give you a big fat F for this episode. It was an entirely frustrating experience trying to listen to this— I made it through a grueling 20 minutes before giving up. I am dying to hear the story of Geeky Girl, and why she only completed 100 miles, what happened, and what was her experience? WHAT IS THE STORY??? Instead of cluing your listeners in, you took the assumption that your listeners have read the book and are already thoroughly familiar with the story. Instead of telling the story, or at least starting with the there, you just launch in with super specific questions (questions that you personally are interested in, and not necessarily your listeners), and unexplained references to the story. I am in my early 50s and dream of walking the trail- at least sections of it— but now I’ll never know what her story is. You’ve done a huge disservice to your guest since now I’m just mad, and not intrigued enough to go out and buy her book. I haven’t listened to a lot of your episodes before, but I really think you should consider your approach. Listeners want to hear stories, and not just a bunch of super specific questions about how hot it was and what shoes a person wears and what brand of tent they bought. It’s about the stories!!!

    Deep Connections
These are sometimes a bit long. But, when I have time, I listen all the way through. I really like the interview style. It helps me connect with the hikers. I feel like I'm back on the trail. Honestly, if they were shorter, I wouldn't feel as deep a connection. It really is like sitting by the campfire and hearing someone's story.

    Wish it would dig deeper!
Wanted to love it, especially because a lot of the guests are amazing thru hikers that I follow on social media. I was hoping to learn more about their stories and deeper questions. Seemed like a lot of the questions were just based on pics/captions from insta or generic gear questions.

Makes me feel connected to the trail :)

    Trail podcast for trail nerds
Just a bunch of dirt bags talking about their thru-hikes.

    Excellent!!
Love this! Great for experienced and novice thru hikers or anyone that loves a good story. Funny, insightful, helpful, and inspiring.

    Disappointing and shallow
The questions are incredibly surface level and never explore the real stories of the guests. We dont need 1 hour+ long episodes to find out about gear and hear empty questions posed in a weird order where the host sounds bored herself. Asking more interesting questions yields more interesting answers! You’ve done your guests a disservice by making them seem boring and not very insightful.

    Informative but awkward
Love the hikers telling the stories. But I have a difficult time with the questions - one question is asked, and then another question is thrown on top of that before the hiker can answer. This is probably done to help clarify, but it winds up choppy and disjointed. Awkward laughing by interviewer but this might be due to time delay with cell phone interviews.

I want to like this more than I do, but I find that I can count on the same softball questions of each guest from episode to episode, usually confined to chosen gear, as if the measure of a guest is his/her sleep system or socks rather than the experiences that lead to such a decision (maybe the guest was just cheap, or conversely, retail-therapy to minimize insecurity) or evolved as a result. There seems seldom to be an exploration of the guest’s story, just enough to break the surface tension, but never a deep dive. Just a bunch of hiker names associated with popular UL brands, “luxury items”, starving college student cuisine. Yawn. This podcast desperately needs storytellers who are prompted to talk story.

    So informative!
Very helpful in planning. Great interview questions and clear audio. I especially like the interviews with women. These hikers are so much less judgmental! Although I’m only on episode 12.

    Great interviews and content
Glad I started listening to your podcast in the last few months. I love hearing from another female voice. So sorry you were unable to begin your PCT adventure. Hopefully in the future it will work out. Thanks for your hard work.

    Great info and inspiration
Erin is an excellent interviewer and has found interesting, engaging and informative subjects. I’ve learned a lot through these podcasts and am inspired to do a thru hike of my own.

    Interesting & kind
Angeling in the Tahoe area we have learned so much from PCT thru hikers. They generally poses kind sweet spirits and have the most interesting stories. The same can be said for Erin’s Hiking Thru Podcast. I listen to many hiking podcasts and Hiking Thru is definitely in my top 3. Very relatable as it’s evident that the trail has been calling to Erin just like it has to so many others. Hope to see you out there! (3-27-20 permit date)—Tenderfoot

Could use some more varied topics
I like listening to this podcast. I’m going through every episode. However the topics are like every other hiking podcast. I’d like to hear some more variety in interviewees and topics. Like a show on great books about hiking and discussions with the authors or a discussion about great websites available for planning or a show about how to go about all the ways to get your required permits or the logistics of getting to and from the trail. The gear discussions are excellent but there seems to be a lack of information other than inspirational stories and gear in hiking podcasts. It seems like your style of interviewing would lend itself to this canyon’s worth of information. Also, I’m totally making myself a tyvek burrito for my sleeping bag. (Episode #7 for the win!)

    Peace of mind
This podcast has helped me understand the journey my son is on, the challenges and joys of his sobo pct hike, it's brought with it a sense of peace. Thank you and good luck on your 2020 adventure

If you have ever even considered doing the AT this is a must listen.

    I love this podcast!
If the title doesn’t say enough, let me say it again: I love this podcast! It is so great to hear from all of these people regarding not just how they planned and executed their thru-hike, but also what was going on mentally throughout their journey. This podcast is getting my thoughts going toward doing a thru-hike myself. Haha. Thank you for doing this!

    Very engaging and informative!
Unlike other hiking podcasts, which won’t be named, this podcast is drama free! Just talking about the journey, the gear, and what it meant.
  • TrevsSchoo
This is the best hiking podcast I’ve listened to so far.
Erin conducts great interviews and the listener can easily imagine the experiences described by her guests. What I love the most is that Erin hasn’t thru hiked before. Her aspirations of being a thru hike match my own and she makes listeners like me feel comfortable and welcome.

    Great hiking podcast
This podcast is very informative for both experienced and novice hikers. The personable, conversational style makes it an enjoyable listen. Erin strikes a good balance between interviewer and fan of all things hiking. Great podcast.

    Great Content, Terrible Audio
I love this podcast but the audio is really bad. I can barely here some of the podcast and have to just give up on some. It’s very frustrating but the content is so good that I keep struggling through the whispering. Please fix 🙏

    Great interviews and stories!
The dialog with all the various campers is great. One small request, can you possibly make the audio a little louder? It’s hard to hear sometimes.

    Great Podcast
Thoroughly enjoy these podcasts. Can’t wait for more.
  • Maroonbooks
    Enjoyable even for non-hikers
Erin is a really good interviewer and I enjoy getting to know her guests through the podcast. She has a lot of questions about gear, but also about the human aspects of life on the trail. Very engaging.
  • Peacebandit
Um. Like. Ya know. Like. Um.
I’ve tried so hard to enjoy this podcast however cannot stand these bro brahs and their constant use of filler words. The worst so far has been Oilcan’s episode. I made it five minutes in to the podcast before I had to turn it off. Either edit it out or interview people who don’t like rely on like so many filler um words, ya know?

    Wonderful for any Wanderers
I’m really lucky to have found this podcast. I’m an aspiring thru-hiker that wants to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in 2020, just like the host, and I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible so I don’t die on trail. Jk, but not really. It’s great to hear all of the questions that I want to ask a triple crown thru hiker, but can’t on IG.
