BerkeleynicoleLoveOne of my favorite podcasts. I listen every week! It is very informative and well thought out. I would highly recommend!
-
Kbk87Thoughtful discussion and great guestsI’ve been listening now for months and decided to subscribe to support the podcast. Really appreciate the thoughtful informed discussions and focus on unmasking roots of white Christian nationalism in our political system as well as the connections with people and organizations that I didn’t know about. I feel a lot better informed and aware.

FloraSaraOOAK Christian-nationalist analysisUp-to-date, scholarly reporting and analysis about Christian Nationalism with a special focus on its current rise in power in US Politics. Essential Listening!

nocopkGreat podBy far my favorite podcast out there! So grateful for all of the amazing coverage.
-
DC_ChristineInteresting and ThoughtfulI have been listening to SWAJ for a while now as a paid subscriber. Brad and Dan bring a scholar’s mind to the ways right wing Christian movements are shaping culture, media and politics in ways not seen before. They do this while being really engaging and always interesting. This is essential listening if you want to understand the power and influence of Christianity in America. I truly appreciate and love what they do.
-
Sky777GuyEmpathetic and Informative discussion of Religion and PoliticsI love this podcast. I learn so much especially from the It’s in the Code and Weekly Roundup series’s - they help me understand my past and present, respectively!

KtJ000123Great pod!Great podcast! The perspective from two ex-evangelicals on what is going on with the intersection of religion and politics is incredibly eye opening and informative. I appreciate all of the work you do to get this information out to the public!

Mander PandeeLove this podcast!I love this podcast, it helps me stay informed and feel less crazy as someone who was raised fundamentalist and sees what’s happening. One request: please reconsider your partnership with Better Help. They are a highly unethical company who have many sketchy business practices, including selling customer information. As a mental health professional who wants everyone to have access to good mental healthcare, it pains me to still see so many people taking ads for Better Help.

Stable genieUnbelievableIt’s unbelievable the mind bending the right is doing without batting an eye 😠

ElectraShellGameInside informationThis podcast helps me understand why the Christians think they’re so right while being so wrong about so many things

hugggggggggyyyyyLove this show!As a atheist in northern Indiana life gets more than a little lonely at times so this podcast is a welcome couple minutes of sanity and more importantly… truth. Thank you guys.
-
sassy4473Love this podcast! As an atheist and someone who feels my freedom FROM religion is under pressure, I’m glad I found this podcast. Knowledgeable hosts, with more biblical background than I have, discussing today’s political landscape + Christian nationalism. No hyperbole but thoughtful examination.
-
Pdc92729Excellent podcastSo thankful for this podcast! I’m a Christian, and appalled by many of my friends’ political views. Many others have given similar review. Read theirs, I agree.

kd^Thank you for speaking the truth!I’m a 75-year-old woman who listens to your podcast religiously. Dad was a dedicated Christian minister with a childlike faith. Mom had a Master’s degree in theology and fought for women’s rights. They taught and showed me how to be a disciple of Jesus, loving others as I love myself, treating others with dignity and respect, giving to others with money and time, being tolerant of others with a willingness to listen and learn, praying for opportunities to serve others, and being filled with an overwhelming attitude of gratitude for all my many blessings. Mom often said, “God is love. Love one another.” Thank you for keeping me informed and for giving me hope!

Enid71The MOST informative Podcast I have found! One of the FEW podcasts I’ve found that seems to understand the whole picture, and presented in a thoughtful manner without any foul language! Thankyou for the meaningful work you do and your careful scholarship! Addition: Why are you putting out podcasts that are exact repeats of a previous podcast? It’s a waste of listeners time!!

EnglishSavageThere are no “rust” statesThank you for your podcast. Please do not use the phrase “rust belt” to refer to the beautiful states in the eastern I80 corridor. The phrase feels very pejorative and disrespectful to this (an other) proud residents of this part of the country. “Industrial Midwest” would be an acceptable alternative. Thank you.

Ed from JuneauDEIRe: Episode 107 -- The MAGA Republicans are opposed to all DEI, but isn't Dei a Latin term for God, as in Opus Dei? (A very conservative Catholic group with which Kevin Roberts, Leonard Leo, and J. D. Vance are all affiliated)

CynthiafirstofhernameExtremely insightfulThis podcast is research-backed and presents a critical take on the alarming rise of Christian nationalism in this country. The hosts have their finger on the pulse of American politics and the intrusion of extreme Christian nationalist views into our laws and schools. And everyone, be aware the name is meant to be deeply IRONIC. I’m seeing a lot of people on social media not getting that….😬🙄
-
Migel FloresRe How Christian Nationalists can interpret the assassination attemptYour comments about the convention shouting “fight” is a stretch far from the intent. With the attempted assassination, and Trump’s instant recovery, fist in the air, saying “fight” carries over as a powerful symbol of the hard road ahead of them. It’s not about violence, it’s about seizing the moment with perhaps what will become the most iconic photo and video footage of a president ever to be captured.

80221Curious……what recent actions of SCOTUS give you the hope you have???
-
DrDK2Wrong on the Immunity CaseNormally I have a lot of respect for this podcast. But your discussion on the Friday show about the SCOTUS Immunity ruling was way off base. Go listen to Amicus or Strict Scrutiny. You aren’t lawyers as far as I know. You do much better when you stay in your theological lanes. This show was a disaster.
-
metsukiGreat podcast and important discussionsThis podcast is a great ongoing discussion about what’s happening in our country, exposing what the Christian Nationalist movement is doing to undermine the foundations of our country and their attempt to take over our institutions and force their narrow view of Christianity on the rest of us.

✨❤️ cherry ❤️✨Overall, really good, buti really appreciate the hosts’ and guests’ work to analyze and educate on a variety of subjects. i’ve learned a lot, and the hosts come across as clever, caring, and funny people with good intentions and a passion to share vital knowledge. thank you for that, genuinely. there are some things i would change, but i do not hold ill will even with my critiques. i feel like they’re a little out of touch with disabled people; i think they should speak about ableism more and keep our experiences in mind. on a related note it does trouble me that the conference they promoted earlier this year (?) had many people attend but no mask requirement; this is a safety hazard, especially to those with immune issues who come into contact with attendees. i’d like to hear more discussion of palestine. i know, it’s focused on usa politics, but i also know that the usa is funding violence there. it upset me to hear no mention of the recent attacks in the humanitarian area, killing displaced civilians in cold blood, during this weekly round up. biden saying he would only withdraw support if a ground invasion took place certainly seemed noteworthy to me. sometimes the pre interview talks gets a bit long- i think i would rather hear the notes on it at the end, actually, so i get the context behind it first. since the additions to paid only content, there have been some really abrupt ends to episodes. i’m sometimes left a bit startled and disoriented. i’d like less jarring outros, please. 😅 still, i appreciate the work and hope the best for you. thank you.

This Way And ThatA peek through the window as a religious outsiderThis show is great! I was raised Pagan and am now Buddhist, so I have almost zero relevant cultural context (although I have read the Bible and been to church because… I’m also a nerd). I picked up this show because of “the Trump thing”, I’ve been very curious about what’s going on “over there” in Evangelical world that makes this all make sense. The most recent episode with Samson and Delilah was really eye opening about how Evangelicals construct their sexual double standard. Thank you for letting me peek through the window!

exvangelicarolPlease don’t miss an episode in this ’24 election seasonWe need SWAJ podcast right now more than ever!!!
-
TrenberrYou guys both sound drunk tonight.SWAJ is my favorite podcast and O am a very faithful listener! But tonight was almost unlistenable as you were both slurring your words horribly.
-
HepetitisDA listening necessitySWAJ is a podcast that is incredibly vital in explaining things going on in religion and politics. Truly doing the Lord’s work here.
-
@graciedZygote vs EmbryoI am a recent follower of the show. Very informative. As to the subject of IVF, the zygote formed in a Petri Dish is not an embryo. An embryo will not form until it finds a host, a woman. Without a uterus, there is no embryo.

Ahimsa2013Essential listeningWe are living through a terrifying moment in US history where theocratic fascism is knocking at our door. This podcast helps listeners understand how this has come about.

ReillocSWImportant show but the hosts need to get our of their own way! This show is doing important work vital the preservation of American democracy, but the hosts aren't doing themselves any favors. Brad Onishi tends to talk as much or more than the people that he interviews. A good interviewer asks insightful, probing questions and gets out of their subjects way, letting the person share their insights, opinions and expertise. Brad seems to turn every interview into his own personal chance to rant at the state of America (which I totally relate to). Meanwhile, Daniel Miller is the kind of pastor/professor who talks for 30 minutes about one bullet point without managing to say much of anything of substance and still considers it a "deep dive." I love the work they are doing, and it needs to be done. I just wish that the interviews were more guest forward and that Dan's teaching was less long-winded so that he could cover more actual substance in the same amount of time.

😉💙🙃24 February 20239 cells qualify as an embryo… However, the Bible says, after God’s breath, this seems to me ‘after’ a child is born…
-
qmpzwnoxenicrnuvtbyGreat show!!As a Buddhist who has read (what I thought was) a lot about Christian beliefs, I have long been confused by the many seeming contradictions displayed politically conservative Christians. Then came the Trump presidency, COVID, and January 6th... All those contradictions were magnified. Brad and Dan decode the tangle of contradictions and explain the historical developments that have resulted in the nationalistic tendencies in some of my fellow Americans that seek to erase me and so many others from this country. The paid subscription is worth it.

OverwhelmedByPatsyAngry GoodI like that this podcast isn’t full of “not all Christians” apologia, or smug internet-atheist rants the virtues of reason over superstition or whatever. There’s something here that’s usually missing in this type of content. Brad doesn’t engage with arguments with fundamentalists on their own terms, or try to use some rosy idea of “true Christianity” to try and prod them into being better. He directly addresses why the core beliefs of these movements are both invalid and harmful. Christian fundamentalists, literalists and evangelicals are wrong because their religion is wrong, not because they’re misunderstanding their own texts and mythologies.

DandiestBravo.Markthemonk is spot on. Although I’ve listened to only two episodes so far, it’s clear that the folks behind this podcast have the rare ability to make the esoterica of their realm not only approachable but understandable to laypeople like me. And the importance of SWAJ’s content strikes me as at once timeless and contemporaneous. Bravo.
-
PRS6565Great comedy! As someone who sits in the MIDDLE as most Americans do.. this show should be in the comedy section.
-
Samuel512Good show. but too little Brad……there’s not enough Brad.
-
MarkthemonkThis podcast is SO necessary! As an almost life long atheist who ascribes to the view that I lack both an art brain or a faith brain, some kind of innate capacity that can’t be taught, at some level my Catholic upbringing still compels me to listen and learn about the impact of religion in all of our lives. When I first heard that there are likely genetic differences between those on the left and those on the right, it seems evident that we must now find a common language that can speak to all of us. Thus the perspective of the presenters offered here is so fascinating in it’s breadth and depth that it helps me to understand the issues facing us in this complex time of media manipulation and a worldwide move to a post industrial push towards isolation and nationalism-fear driven at its core-and dangerous to all. Thank you!

Dayavati Rafter5 Hour Civil Rights ActI love this podcast. It may finally get my writing career going! Brad, 5 hours on CRA, a man after my own heart!! Teach, teach, teach!!!
-
RobSubA niche programThis is a podcast with a very specific theme that is extremely important today. The alarm about Christian Nationalism often goes unnoticed by the media in general. They break down the issues like academics and not like some commentators with little to no training in analyzing and critical thinking.

Number Two.Straw Man Podcast, imoI don’t think many if not most “conservative evangelicals” are as in love with Trump as your podcast implies so you may need to consider finding a new punching bag or gig.
