Aethuran Dark Saga - A Dark Fantasy Audio Fiction

87
Drama #224

Imagine Game of Thrones merged with Witcher but with a horror spin. Aethuran Dark Saga has often been branded a dramatized audiobook as the richness of the world portrayed puts it miles ahead of many other podcasts. This show takes no prisoners and immerses the listener in a dismal gritty world drenched in blood and filled with wailings of its inhabitants. It's as gripping as it is unforgiving, written and acted with true passion and attention to detail, which is going to make your heart grow with compassion towards the characters, only to shatter it to pieces a minute later. In this world, evil is more frequently rewarded than good deeds and not a single person is exempt from suffering a gruesome death. If you're into dark fantasy, this is probably the best show out there for you to check -. From Myst(tribesmedia editor)

Immersive Storytelling Unveiled in Exquisite Detail
Amazingly well-written, the narrator's soft voice and slight accent are intriguing and captivating just enough not to cause any distractions. Furthermore, each scenario is vividly described in great detail, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the story without any distractions.

    Engaging and brilliant
As a writer, I am in love with the descriptions used to paint a mental image of this dark tale. Still in Chapter 1 but it’s great so far despite a few nuances 😊

    Awesome Fantasy Story
Excellent audio which is great because most of the time I can hardly hear what is being said. Also, great detailed descriptions of events and expalanations. I really love they way he weaves the story together and also the breaks from live action to narration of story…. Highly recommend for all fantasy fiction lovers.

    I think it’s good…?
I listened to 4.5 episodes. I think it was interesting. The audio mix however was terrible. “Background” music would flood out dialogue, the voice processing of some characters makes them basically intelligible. This is with earbuds even!

    Imaginative, well written, superbly entertaining
Still listening to the first chapter and i am hooked. This is a well written and read/voiced story. It has the vibe of an epic tale and could be the next Lord of the Rings tale! Looking forward to spending time listening to this yarn unfold.

    Bravo.
Thank you for creating a vivid and visceral fantasy world unique from the tropey themes reminiscent of the eroded foundations of early fantasy fiction. Although I have the highest regard to the early pioneers of this genera, Tolkien, Howard, and Lieber, the idea of another clutch of haughty elves, crass dwarves. or a dragon surmount a profusion of wealth leaves me rything in tedium. Please continue the undulation from bold character development to overture of captivating milieu. Further Complements to your voice actors, musical scores, and foley artist. CSC

    Highly recommended...not for kiddos!
I found this as I embarked on a podcast search for dark fantasy stories and have been very impressed. The stories are compelling, the fighting brutal and descriptive, the characters both good and evil are well thought out. Looking forward to see where this goes!

    Awesome Podcast
I was looking for a story based, audio drama type fantasy podcast and was excited to find this one. After listening for the first time, I couldn’t wait to listen to the entire thing. I love the setting, characters, and most of all the world building involved. Also, the sounds and narration are amazing, and I personally love the (Scottish?) accent. This podcast is awesome and I scant wait for more.

Come, Join us By The Fire
The tales of Aethuran and beyond lie between two distinct worlds. One, storied and expansive--the well-narrated audiobook. The other, immediate and evocative, the well-acted audiodrama. Aethuran is the tale of a lone author and his doppleganger from a nearby world, a lone audiodrama actor. As the mystic energies of the media aethur waned, these two worlds were brought together in one mind, one consciousness, to create a harrowing and evocative dark fantasy brimming with horror and hope. If you can imagine yourself sitting by a low fire in a village hut, listening to a deep fantasy tale of heros and villains, spun by a master storyteller and and aetherial orchestra, then this is the tale for you. Come, join us at the fire.

An epic show done by an epic man
The writing and production on this show is incredible and the voice work is fantastic - and then you find out that Phil is a one-man band and you can help but be impressed! Given the level of world building and the story, it’s nearly impossible to stop listening. Love it!

Highly underrated, an epic saga leaving you wanting more
It’s hard to find audio dramas that are well told and written stories in the fantasy genre especially. Aethuran hits every target I had. It’s a gripping story, the characters are well developed, the story weaves through multiple characters as they all coalesce and it pulls no punches when it comes to protagonists meeting their ends. Amazing fantasy audio drama, for free mind you, and the quality gets better with time. Thank you so much for making this available to us all. I wish you good fortune in the wars to come, and I hope you keep producing more!

    Hidden Gem!
Wow. I am incredibly impressed by what P.D. Usher has done here. The sole writer, actor, and producer of this audio drama project shows that he is a major force to be reckoned with on many levels. The writing is classic epic/dark fantasy, the story is compelling, and most of all, the narration is ON POINT. I don't know why this audio drama hasn't gotten more attention... Definitely a hidden gem!

For fans of epic dark fantasy
The mythology of Aethuran runs deep and unfolds itself over the full course of the story, revealing religious, folkloric, and fantastical inspirations. Superficially, it is an epic fantasy pitting good against evil but, in truth, passionately delves into a dark world driven by an ensemble of complex characters seeking desperately to find a balance and meaning among the traumas of their pasts, anxieties over their futures, and conceptions of duty and morality. It is complicated and dark -- very dark, at times -- frequently punishing acts of good and rewarding the evil which effortlessly permeates all aspects of the world and story. Unique and inspired production, and one of my favorite on-going shows.

    Creepy And Well-Crafted
This is one of those audios that really benfits from listening with turning the lights off, lighting a few candles, and maybe something warm to drink to keep the chills of the story at bay. Usher is an excellent narrator, and being the sole voice in this work in no way hinders it. The ominous soundscape pushes his narration to the point where you will probably get a few genuine chills while listening. If you like fantasy with a darker tinge, you should check this out.

    Finally!!!!

    Love it: very visceral
Not generally an audio-drama person, but the creativity and vision that’s been put into this is immediately apparent. Excited to see where it goes!

    Dark, visceral fantasy
This audio drama is exactly what I’d been hoping to find. Great world building, compelling characters, crisp yet detailed writing and good voice acting - unbelievable that’s it’s a one person endeavor. The world of Aethuran is dark and brutal, you’re gonna love it.

    I can't stop
It's way cool, it's not even one of the genres I usually like, but give it a listen (and give it a few minutes to warm up) and it's much, much more interesting than a lot of other podcasted epics out there. I am finding it very hard to pull myself away from it... the creator seems to be learning the ins and outs of audio as he goes, but that's great, he's putting all his creativity into the story, and I'd much rather listen to this than a smooth-and-perfectly-produced, purely commercial story....
  • A Space Potatoe
    Literary and Immersive
Not only is the story well written, but even the narration is just like a professionally published work. Immediately the world is painted vividly without over describing. The music also helps deliver imagery as the rich lore of Aethuran unfolds. When there are sounds, they fit well and the diversity of voices is impressive. If you enjoy The Witcher or GOT, you’ll want to listen to Aethuran. It’s awesome.
  • No one, nowhere, nohow
    Excellent dark fantasy
One man show with amazing voice filters. There's clearly a massive creative vision driving this and I'm looking forward to more.

Fantastic Fantasy in line with Dark Souls and Berserk
This is such a rare find, the dark fantasy horror genre and I can't get enough of it. Aethuran hits that nice middle ground between an Audio Book and a TV show, the writing is moody and focused and it's clear that the creator has a big vision. A must listen for me and anyone else looking for dark fantasy.
  • JV Torres
    Big story
Nice narration and voice effects. I like the pace of the storyline and keeping the imagery conceptual and character names neat to follow. Good job! I’m looking forward to hearing more.
