    Great Podcast Hugo!
I have an intermediate level in French and have been watching and learning from Hugo’s podcast in recent months. What caught my attention about Hugo’s podcast is that not only he speaks clearly, and at a friendly pace, but also covers interesting topics and so I find the content very educational. Hugo is very eloquent and has a good positive vibe which makes the podcast even more enjoyable. I certainly recommend it!

    Leftist tropes in clear French
All the Leftist tropes you’ve come to love regurgitated uncritically in clear, understandable, French.

    so glad I found this
This is an amazing resource since it’s free and starts out right at my level. I love the variety of topics and appreciate the way he repeats what he’s saying in several ways so that if you don’t know a word, then you can understand and learn new words and phrases.

    A truly invaluable resource
I can’t express my gratitude enough for this labor of love Hugo has created. I am in awe of his tenacity and dedication to making French accessible to learners. This podcast is such a generous offering – I honestly feel indebted to him. I have been studying the language for years and yet since starting to listen to his podcasts, my ability to speak and comprehend it has improved exponentially! Thank you thank you thank you 🩷

    The best method!
This is the best way to learn French, and Hugo chooses the most interesting topics! My comprehension has improved greatly in the few weeks I’ve been listening. Can’t say enough about how great this podcast is. Thanks!

    Perfect podcast!
I began learning French on my own via Duolingo a little over two years ago. It’s been a few months since I finished the Duolingo course and I have been looking for content that is somewhere between beginner stuff and stuff for native speakers. This podcast is at the perfect level. Hugo speaks slowly and clearly and gives French explanations when he uses a tricky word or phrase. I usually can understand most of the podcast just fine as long as my mind is focused. I will also say that with Duolingo, I was accustomed to ALWAYS seeing the written words, and I really needed to develop the listening skill without the crutch of written French. This podcast has really helped that. I think out of listening to over 30 episodes so far, I’ve only gone back and needed to read the transcript twice. But the transcript on the website is a really nice addition because you can click on the difficult words and get a definition.

    Hugo and Ingrid Are Fantastic!
I have been listening to Hugo’s podcasts for a few years - almost from when he started them. His subjects have always been very interesting and I usually can’t wait for new ones to drop. I even often go back to the beginning (of his podcasts) to re-listen to the old stuff a third or fourth time. Actually, I tend in general, to listen several times to each podcast he creates. Since Ingrid began to cohost, I find that the subjects have retained their interest value, and that she has made listening even more enjoyable! Her easy laughter and good humor, compliment Hugo’s perfectly. Surprisingly, it has helped me to comprehend spoken French more easily by also listening to a female voice. I recommend this podcast all the time, even to non-French learners bc I honestly cannot recommend it enough!!

    This is a great podcast
I love this podcast because Hugo talks about interesting and varied topics that keep me more and more interested in learning French. Listening to him every day, I have improved so much my capacity for understanding French, even though I haven't been able to practice a lot. Thank you Hugo for your dedication, for bringing me so much about the French culture and helping me to break the barrier that had created many years ago about learning French.

    Great tool for every level!
I prefer when it was just Hugo but I get it that the brand has grown and he needed to bring new people to the team. I keep listening to the old episodes. I love the variety of topics covered and how we get to learn about the French culture and their struggles as a society. Sometimes we idealized the country cause we love it so much but it is good to learn about their struggles and challenges.

The best podcast for intermediate French learners
This is the best French learning podcast if you are an intermediate French learner. It is very hard to find a good podcast for intermediate learners. Most podcasts are aimed for beginners. They talk too slow! But Inner French is perfect. Hugo and Ingrid talk at the perfect speed, the topics are super interesting and allow listeners to understand French culture and society more deeply. As an intermediate level learner, I can always learn a few new vocabularies without being overwhelmed and feeling frustrated. The transcripts are the BEST part of the podcast. So much work and thought go into the podcasts. Thank you!!!! (I should write this review in french but I’m lazy…. Maybe next time!)

Genuinely interesting topics with clear diction
I lived in a France many years ago and since I left, I’ve kept up my language skills by listening to podcasts, news, etc. In over 10 years, I have never found a podcast as interesting as this one. Hugo discusses questions that are genuinely interesting about French culture, history, and language. He seems to understand that just because our language skills are rudimentary, our intellectual skills are not. He never dumbs down his topics. Rather than relying on stereotypes, he often “unpacks” them, exploring their origins and discussing the way French people relate to them today. All of this amounts to a podcast that gives the listener a window into the real culture of contemporary France.
  • SabiGabi
    Very clear, good diction
I love the fact that the narrators repeat the street French phrases several times after the first explanation of the phrase. Very good topics! Thank you sooo much for keeping my French alive.

    Excellent Podcast
Merci encore

    Love the Podcasts
I started listening to Hugo about 2 years ago and absolutely love his podcasts. I started with number 1. I was thrilled because I understood everything he said. I must admit that as time went on it became more difficult as he increased his speed. I am struggling a bit now, especially when he talks with Anna and Ingrid, but I can understand the text. Always has interesting topics and I always look forward to the next podcast! Gayle USA

    One Stone Two Birds
I had discovered this podcast during the pandemic lockdown, and have wanted to leave a review on my android device, but without success. Now I have acquired a small IPOD and am finally able to write a review that the creator so very much deserves. I have been learning French on and off on my own for quite a few years, but was never able to understand the spoken French. This Podcast finally bridges that gap, because all the episodes were spoken with such clarity, calm voice, perfect tempo, plus very useful day -to-day vocabulary. On top of the aforementioned helpful attributes, the subjects of the content were all very interestingand extremely well researched. That means not only the listeners can improve their listening comprehension skill, but also broaden their knowledge about many different subjects and contemporary issues. In addition, Hugo seems to be a person with a very healthy and well balanced view of the world and life, completely devoid of any stereotypical character traits of French people. I can only guess that it’s a result of a very good upbringing. The podcast format has changed last year from a monologue to a conversation style with Ingrid. Even though it’s still good, I still prefer the original format recited by Hugo himself. I hope he will at least alternate the monologue with the conversation with Ingrid. Anyway, I highly recommend this language learning podcast. Great job!!!

    J’adore Inner French
Merci bien!

    Too political
It’s a shame that this podcast is so political and that it is used as much to push the hosts’ opinions as it is to help people learn French. If you are more middle of the road or conservative leaning, you might look for a more neutral podcast!

    Higher Learning
It is so gratifying to be able to (largely!) understand an entire podcast of highly interesting and engaging content about a fascinating culture in a language I’m working to learn. Cheers to Hugo and Team for the clarity and thoughtfulness of your approach to language learning.

    Excellent for learning French!
I just discovered this podcast recently and am up to the 16th episode. I look forward to going through them all! The podcast are very interesting and completely hold my attention. It makes learning French fun and engaging. It doesn’t feel like a burden having to do my French lesson for the day but I actually look forward to it each day and can already feel myself improving for becoming better with the language. Thank you so much Hugo for this podcast!

La épisode qui s'agit de Bernard Arnault
What luck! This is the first episode of InnerFrench I've listened to. Absolutely compelling story about someone who might be called America's Trump minus the political ambitions. I learned a ton of new phrases and got an insight into the world of luxe in France that I've never had access to before.
  • Azalea is
Exactly what I was looking for!
This podcast is absolutely perfect to help me move beyond advanced beginner/early intermediate . As Hugo says in the first episode, most resources are designed for truly beginners and are way too easy, but podcasts etc for native speakers are too advanced and too fast. This hits the sweet spot. Love it!
  • LeSingeSavant88
Best podcast to learn French, by far
innerFrench is a godsend for French learners. If you studied French in school but still can't understand a word of fast, spoken French, you'll immediately be amazed by how well you can understand Hugo. Not only is he the most comprehensible French speaker ever, he also chooses interesting topics and is an excellent teacher, pausing to explain potentially unfamiliar words or expressions. I'd suggest starting with the first episode and work your way up to the more recent ones. Listen to each at least twice. The older ones are a bit slower and later, a couple co-hosts join the podcast. They are also excellent, but not quite as clear as Hugo. (As I said, he is the easiest French person to understand ever.) And the transcripts are available for free. I would credit this podcast as the main resource that helped me go from mid-beginner to advanced-intermediate, capable of understanding French content made for natives.

    My Breakthrough Podcast in French
Hugo captured my imagination with wonderful stories he always comes up with spot-on, and — most importantly — for the first time I needed no explanation in other languages I speak. The first one I listened to game a high to the seventh heaven. I picked up everything he talked and as I go on started incorporating his ideas with things I was already doing to sharpen my French. Hugo, tu m’as fait pleurer de bonheur dans le premier épisode. Merci beaucoup du fond du cœur. Bonne chance et bonne santé!

Time To Remove The Subtitles! For French Learners Of Any Level!
Hugo has a deep understanding of language learning and he applies this knowledge to every session of his podcast. By far, this has been the absolute best one for me! I always used English subtitles when watching French movies and shows but since I started listening to this podcast I dared to removed the subtitles and couldn’t believe myself at how much I understood! I feel lucky and grateful after having ventured into the endless sea of podcasts out there to have come across this one. Hugo, my sincere thanks. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say you have truly improved French learning with this medium!

This is unlike anything else I’ve tried in French. I am able to understand most of the episodes without following along with the transcript. Hugo does a very good job of articulating, choosing subjects of interest and speaking at a pace that is easy to digest. And you always have the transcript if you need it. Highly recommend.

    First rate
These podcasts are a real gift to intermediate-level French students, particularly the early episodes at the A2 level. There is very little content out in the world at this level. The podcasts are not only perfectly targeted, the content is interesting and I learned a lot by listening to them. The accompanying transcripts are invaluable. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
