Gavin and Louie host an incredible podcast where they dive in deep, but don’t let that intimidate you because these hosts make it accessible for one and all. If you like any of the topics covered, start there, but know that you are going to get hooked and these folks will hold your hand while you discover something new!

This podcast is always a total joy to listen to. I really respect the dedication that Gavin and Luis put into each episode. I always learn something new or get a nudge to watch something that I should have watched by now.

The amount of work Gavin and Luis put into each episode is truly amazing. But they don’t make it sound like research, it’s always a fun time at the Mixed Reviews. Most importantly, the queer perspective is what makes this podcast extra special! Love you guys!

Louie and Gavin are well prepared and extremely entertaining. I’ve only started listening recently but I love their series on Brendan Fraser. Can’t wait to go through the archives and find some new favorites! A must listen.

Everything I’ve been looking for in a podcast by people who I instantly adored.

The Barbra episode drew me in but the research, the attention, the humor, and the fun made a fan. Gavin and Louie make a great team, and each episode feels like sitting around listening to good friends talk about film. I love what you guys do and I don’t think there’s been an episode that didn’t leave me with at least one movie I’ve never seen before that I now I want to see. Thanks for being a light in dark times!

The concept of this podcast is an A+ and makes it stand out among all the movie podcasts they exist, since picking a specific topic for a filmography means we get a wide selection of movies to hear about in one episode, all while learning the arc of the subjects’ careers (or in some cases, how a type of movie has changed over time). Gavin and Louie bring a lot of knowledge, research, insight, and overall lovely energy to the conversations. I’ve gotten some great movie recommendations from listening to it, and it’s impeccably produced!

Love this duo’s deep dives, particularly the ones into the breadth of a particular actor’s career. They do their research, and they have great chemistry—when the end theme comes on, I can’t believe two hours have already passed.

I’ve been meaning to write this review forever. I love this podcast. I learn something new each episode and get movies to add to my ‘must watch’ list. Gavin and Louie are incredibly charming and strike a perfect balance between informative and irreverent. Love it!

As someone who grew up doing deep dives into an actor or filmmaker’s filmography, The Mixed Reviews podcast normalizes my favorite way of enjoying cinema. Gavin and Luis take great care as they explore the work by each of their podcast subjects. Do I think the Lynn Shelton episode is the best? Yes. Am I perhaps a little biased? Maybe. Regardless, this podcast is the true definition of a must-listen.

So grateful for this podcast and the time, care, and research Gavin and Louie put into each and every episode topic. Some personal favorites: Barbra Streisand, Parker Posey, and Ang Lee. 💛💛

Louie and Gavin know so much more about movies and celebrities than I ever will or could and THANK GOD. I just love to listen to them banter about celebrities we love and hate, movies we REALLY love and REALLY hate, the behind the scenes history and trivia that makes me *gasp* and say “omg that did NOT happen!” outloud. Is this my favorite because it’s Gavin stating facts and Louie reading him for it? Absolutely. Is this my favorite shower pastime? Again, yes. Anyway, listen if you wanna nerd out on all of the movies and actors! I definitely always end up watching movies they talk about that I’ve never heard of.

I absolutely love that I found this show, and these two lovely hosts. Every episode they really go into such detail on the subject. You can tell they really put time and care into each entry. I discovered this show through “This Had Oscar Buzz” and I am SO GRATEFUL. Gavin & Louie take such care with the subject of each episode and do a solid, honest exploration of their work. I am slowly but surely working my way through each episode and was *floored* to be mentioned in their Eddie Murphy episode! Color my leather suit surprised. My name is Nandi and I approve of this podcast!

Honestly, I didn’t know I hadn’t rated and reviewed yet, bc I’ve been listening and loving this podcast for years. Gavin and Louie has great co-host chemistry and their topics are always well-researched and super interesting.

This is my show, so we probably won’t read this on air, but I just want to say I’m proud of us :)

I love the whole idea of this podcast. I always come away with at least 3 new movies to add to my IMDB watchlist. I particularly love the episodes with more classic stars like the Olivia DeHavaland and Rita Moreno episodes. There was a sticky moment in the Carey Grant episode were I forgot what Carey Grant looked like and I pictured Clark Gable. I only realized my mistake when they mentioned A Philadelphia Story in the 40’s and I was like wait they skipped Gone With the Wind? Then I remembered watching Philadelphia Story and it all made more sense haha. As long as they keep posting I’ll keep listening! I’d love an episode on Angela Landsberry if you’re looking for suggestions!

Louie and Gavin are so much fun to listen to. Their combined knowledge of film and passion for it is evident in their episodes. Plus they have such a great rapport! If you want a deep-dive into actors and actresses with enjoyable cohost banter, this is the show for you. Their Mandy Moore episode was A+. Keep up the great work! :)

I love this podcast! Louie and Gavin dive in deep when researching an actor, director, or genre and it is so fascinating to listen to what they found. I find myself wishing my commute was longer so I can keep listening. I really like that they don’t just give a 5 star but also their 1 star choices. And the reviews? They. Are. Mixed. Love it!

The Mixed Reviews does something different than most film podcasts I've listened to. While most others focus on films, directors, or genres specifically, The Mixed Reviews tackles actors/actresses' careers in depth. They also throw in other movie focused topics in older episodes for a little bit of variety (I.E.- 90's superhero movies). It's informative without being overly critical or self serious. Movie watchers need to add this show to their podcast rotation.

I thoroughly enjoyed the review on Ms. Bassett. It’s the first of the reviews I have seen for this podcast. You both had me laughing so hard at times. I love Angela Bassett as an actress and I too am hoping she gets a really amazing dramatic role soon that showcases her talent and leads to her Oscar. She’s definitely at her best in dramatic roles. She’s nominated again for 2 Emmys so, hoping she gets at least 1...although she deserves both. I am excited about “Gunpowder Milkshake...” haven’t. Seen a trailer yet, but hoping she got some good scenes in the film. Bomb review!! Informative, enjoyable, and well researched. It is obvious you both put time and effort into this. Looking forward to checking out some others!!

What a delight! Gavin and Luis know their film stuff (or at least thoroughly research it!) and present it so entertainingly. Whether or not I am super familiar with the subject, I end up either with new movies to add to my queue or the strong desire to rewatch some favorites. They own 51% of my podcast downloads!

These two do it right when it comes to being true critics. They don't always agree for the sake of agreeing and they seek the truth in various aspects of film. Deep dives, without the tabloid rhetoric, are the best!

The Mixed Reviews is a fantastic movie podcast with a great concept. These guys stick to the topic (with light riffing but always getting back to the point) and have done their research. They also have genuine interest in their subjects and aren't out to tear anyone down. In the biography (Rewind) section of the show, Gavin and Louie don't follow the media/gossip narrative of actors but focus on career, sometimes touching on philanthropic activities. Also appreciated is their resolve not to bring relationships/children into the conversation if the actor is protective of those topics. The chemistry is great; Louie's reactions are precious. This is the perfect mix of entertainment and information.

I anticipate every new episode and love how these two are consistently surprising me with each new episode and topics! Can’t wait for the next one!

Found this podcast through the “This Had Oscar Buzz” podcast. Good chemistry between the cute hosts and each episode is a nice length. Definitely worth a listen if you’re a movie nut and pop culture fan. They do a good job giving you just enough research about each artist to be a thoughtful listen, but not boring.
