    Exceptional!
My family and I had the fortunate pleasure of taking a walking tour through the city of Charleston with Mike Brown, and I’m so glad we did because I discovered this podcast through that tour! Mike’s research and storytelling are spot on! His style and genre appealed both to history buffs and followers of the macabre. If you like either, you’re in for a treat!

    Always such a rich tapestry
Whenever I listen to one of Mike Brown s stories I fell like I ve been on an incredible journey through the past— through alley ways and along the shore, down a cobble stone street in the moonlight — all the while filling my senses with both the humanity of the time and those from the other side. A great weaver of historical tales.

The best tour guide in Charleston, in podcast form!
Mike Brown is the most seasoned ghost tour guide in Charleston. His understated but masterful delivery of ghost stories is intoxicating. I was on one of his tours recently, and was so glad I could share the Lavinia Fisher story in Mike’s words instead of my own. (And holy heck, what a twist!) If you love shows like Lore, you need to give this podcast a try.

Mikes addictive storytelling has me glued! He knows how to get your attention and keep it for hours at a time! I’ve listened to all the Pleasing Terrors episodes more than 4 times! Update- I am currently listening to it again for the 6th time! I just can get enough of his storytelling! It is my favorite podcast to listen too!

    The best.
Favorite podcast ever. Sets the bar so high for me that I can’t quite get into other pods as much as this one. I hope he never stops producing content.
  • Endlessly Dissapointing.
    Amazing storytelling
My favorite podcast I have ever run across. Got hooked after taking Mike’s ghost tour and have listened to the entire thing over and over again. This is my #1 podcast to recommend to everyone that asks. I would recommend the ghost tour to anyone around Charleston as well- Mike’s surpasses every other tour by a mile

    Mike is a fantastic storyteller!
I got hooked on his podcast,Pleasing Terrors, early on. Then Mike had a terrible car accident and was unable to continue at that time. He is back now and, as a huge fan of his style, voice, and wordsmithing, I am thrilled! I hope to get to Charleston one day to see the city and take his acclaimed walking ghost tour!

    Really enjoyable!
Mike has a great way of weaving various lore and stories together as well as exploring logical and supernatural explanations for the events he shares. If you are ever in Charleston, SC check out his ghost tours too!

    Finally, full circle
I’ve listened to Mike for yearssss. His storytelling has been one of my most sought after in all podcast for lore, legends and all things ghosts. Finally, I was able to take his tour in Charleston, SC. And it was everything I expected and more. Mike is as gripping a storyteller in person as he is on a mic into your ear on podcast. Enjoy in a dark room or a dark alley. These are the tales that chill you and thrill you. These are the tales that make you question what is real. The podcast is a must listen and the tour is a must walk. Enjoy.

    Fantastic and creepy!
This is such a great podcast! I’m dying to hear more stories, and I keep checking back for more. Please don’t stop releasing content. This is excellent content without extraneous distractions. I can really focus and get into the stories. Awesome escape!

    Was a fan….
Drawing a comparison between drug addict felony Floyd and a good man like Duncan is far reaching and absurd ! Very political and bias. There was no reason for the riots that destroyed countless lives of families of all colors in so many cities . While the police got convicted , and 2 were black, that should have been the end of all. If Floyd had been white or Asian would you have mentioned him? I had lots of respect for the facts and details the author put in his stories. But making it political? And racists? No. And for the record I am of mixed racial heritage , and feel as MLK said, “ all should be judged by their actions , not the color of their skin.”

    Love it!
I love American Hauntings podcast with Troy Taylor and Cody Beck. Since their current season is over, I was randomly searching podcasts and came across an episode of HillBilly Horror Stories where you did an interview. I was definitely intrigued and now I’m currently binging your episodes. I find that a lot of podcasts have excess chatter or the hosts talk so quickly that it’s difficult to follow, which is not the case here. I immediately hit the follow button after listening to one of your episodes. Awesome work. So glad I found it. Thank you for being amazing.

This is Pod is why I listen to podcasts
The writer and narrator is one of the best creepy/good/scary/Haunting storytellers I’ve heard. Always excited to hear a new episode downloaded!!! Please come back. You have the most unique way to tell a story. It’s so good. Your stories are riveting; I really hope your writing new material or a book right now. Your seriously talented.

    Interesting and creepy
I first heard of Mike through his ghost tour in Charleston and enjoyed it. I found his podcast and over the last few days have listened to the first 5 episodes. One while I was working late at night around my house and it had me looking behind my back and made me scared to look out the windows to a near by field. I am not usually into ghost stories but these are not just ghost stories but also some history to give the stories some context and I really enjoy that part.

    Fantastic
I just listened to Here Are Dragons (29 Mar 2021 episode). All I can say is, wow. What a great story. Your research seems thorough. You present the information in a well thought out way. I kept wanting more on the story, and you just kept giving it. Totally transfixed. Great job and thank you. Highly recommended listening.

    Deserves attention
The most impressive planning and writing I’ve ever heard in a Podcast. Would love to hear it more frequently, but it’s likely right that I wait.

    Last breath ...
The presentation, excellent, the elocution quite good & the history interesting! Didn’t know much about the pirate/s influence in profiteering via terror. That is, than what I had learned how the English reformation indeed also had their hands in the pot.

    Worth the Wait
New episodes might not come out very often, but when they do, it is well worth the wait. I just finished the episode “Last Breath” and I am struck by the stunning combination of Mike’s powerful writing and his simple, understated presentation. His words have weight and he wields them beautifully. I am haunted by his words as much as his subject matter. His attention to detail is impeccable, his research obviously thorough, and he masters the historian’s trick of giving scope to a cultural epoch with specific and vivid details.

    The Best Of Its Kind
What Mike Brown does with this podcast is truly exceptional. I listen to a ton of horror/spooky/haunted history podcasts, and there are some incredible gems (Lore, Blurry Photos, Monsters Among Us), but Pleasing Terrors is the reigns supreme. Brown’s understanding os history offers great texture and depth to these terrifying stories — all of them historically based. I found this podcast three years ago on a long drive from northern to Southern California, and by the time I arrived home I was sufficiently spooked. I highly recommend starting from the beginning and working your way through, but some episodes I’ve found myself revising are: “The Labyrinth Parts 1

    Worth your time. Guaranteed.
Beautifully crafted, well-written, gripping storytelling. Diverse material delivered in a way so accessible, yet never yields in spookiness. It’s here when we needed it the most. I wish there were more episodes.
