QuirkartistCurrent, fun, insightful, and MOTIVATINGEric is a phenomenal host and I’m so glad he has made this show a regular priority. He has great insights and such passion for plein air. What an invaluable opportunity to learn from the best for free on this show! I always walk away ready to try something new or see my work and others with a keener sensibility for what works and what it takes to become a better painter. Thank you, Eric!

Art Gal USGood content horrible audio!I loved the guests and content on this podcast, but I stopped listening and unsubscribed. One of the most important qualities of a podcast should be the audio!! I’m not sure why Eric has not invested in quality audio equipment, but there have literally been episodes where I had to stop listening because I could not hear or the audio was just awful!! Considering all the bragging Eric does about how much he gets paid to just for a consultation , I don’t know why he can’t spend a little money on some decent audio equipment. That and considering he used to be a radio guy are beyond me. I also got turned off about all the talking he does about himself.

DahliCatGet a therapistDuring the first show I listened to, a listeners question, one that is asked frequently, how do I get over the feeling of being judged and comparing myself to others? His response: get a therapist. Now, he rolled on into a long winded explanation on how he had similar feelings, experiences, gave advice, but at least 3 more times kept mentioning get a therapist. Instead of relating with “that’s a good question, I too have had and grown from similar feelings” he thought his off the cuff remark was a good way to start an answer. Art is vulnerability. And although you need to put yourself out there to be seen as artists, a person of Paul’s stature in the art world could have more effectively answered the question.

Alison SchutzBest Art Podcast out there. How generous is Erik Rhodes with his time and talent to share these wonderful art podcasts, full of outstanding information, free, for anyone wanting to learn more about the Art Journey. I personally think this is the best Art Podcast out there and I listen to a lot of outstanding ones. He has even made me want to start a Plein Air Group here in Corpus Christi, it’s in the making. Thanks for all you do for the Art World.

Melissa KuzmaInspiring and BingableAs someone new to painting, this series has helped me realize I am an aspiring plein air artist. Eric and the team have amassed an amazing set of artists who share everything from lessons learned to life stories, marketing help, encouragement, and a love of art and the world around us. So much great information. Keep up the good work!

Shawn Dell JoyceLove the focus on plein air artistsThank you Eric and staff for a too notch podcast that really delves deep into the artists working in the field today. Love hearing painting tips and artist’s stories - especially fun being featured in episode 211 and getting to tell my own story! I’ve listened to them all and eagerly wait for more!
-
KathansendrawingsGood podcastI love listening to most of the artists on here and take away a lot of great information even tho I am not a plein air painter. But the audio part is so off sometimes I stop listening ...very frustrating!!!

julyandavisCheeky!Always fun to listen to- Eric has great guests and his slightly anarchic sense of humor is refreshing. Cheers.

UKYArtistToo much hostGood guests but the host talks an awful lot about himself. Could be much better.

CJMInspirareInspiring! As an artist who began my art journey after 50, I appreciate Eric often asking the artist being interviewed about how they would encourage the artist who is a latecomer and needs to find the fast track. That’s me! While the joy is in the journey, it is a great help to hear of the things that are needed for a good foundation and that shouldn’t be neglected. Time is precious and can’t be bought so I need this guidance. Thank you! May your days be blessed.

Guilford galJay MooreWhat a great interview this is. I have greatest respect for Jay who will get up at any hour and go any location in the most extreme cold to get the visual materials he desires. Jay shared some valuable insights on the subject of edges and color relationships and more. Be sure not to miss this podcast

2BJTGood Guests, Lousy Audio editingEric has great guests but he desperately needs help with audio editing. The volume levels between him and the guests is often so far off that it’s almost impossible to listen to the podcast.

Ms. T NHGreat interview with Mark BoedgeI’ve taken workshops with Mark and I love his paintings. I learned a lot in his workshops but I learned even more from this episode because it is well structured and easy to listen to. Eric asks all the right questions and the answers from Mark are honest. I know this from taking a workshop with him.

Crista CloutierInteresting + InformativeI'm not a plein air painter myself, but I appreciate these interviews nonetheless. The guests are varied and interesting, and the Marketing Minute at the end of each episode is always spot on.

vbvanativeGreat guests but...I love the fantastic guests this podcast offers. Truly wonderful artists. But I struggle to listen because of the issues with the host. The audio quality is distorted, so to hear the call-in guests, I have to turn up my sound. But when the host jumps in, his volume and proximity to the microphone creates a yelling quality, and I have to turn the episode off entirely. I also don’t appreciate a lot of his commentary. Rather than pulling out the gems of experience each artist could offer, he seems to want to add his own thoughts and critique to a distracting degree-even frequently interrupting their train of thought or adding irrelevant extra personal feelings to a topic they could’ve easily handled without his added bits. I keep checking back to see if it’s ever improved because this could really be a great podcast if these things were addressed. It’s disappointing.

miss OptimumThis podcast is a treasureEvery week I look forward to this podcast. Of all the art podcasts, Eric is the most knowledgeable host. He asks interesting questions and draws wonderful insights from his Amazingly talented guests. Because of this podcast, I have done color charts per Richard Schmid, learned about the importance of values, explored limited palettes, been forced to research terms I didn’t understand, which lead to even more art knowledge, and discovered there is no substitute for brush mileage, except perhaps painting with my eyes while listening to my weekly mentor share his or her wisdom. Thank you for creating this podcast!!!

threelimesGreat podcast!I’m a fairly recent subscriber to this podcast, and was delighted to find it! Eric has a very pleasant voice and an affable demeanor. Because he’s an artist himself he understands what topics many listening artists want to hear about. The quality of the guests he invites on is amazing and inspiring, just wow! I’ve been turned on to many fantastic artists I hadn't known before. One minor criticism is that Eric often does a lot of “long talking” himself during interviews. He’ll sometimes interrupt or cut his guests off, to jump in with an anecdote, explanation or pondering of his own. While he IS a very interesting guy, I do sometimes wish he’d shorten his own mid-interview perorations just a little, as much as I respect his POV. Its not a big deal, think it’s merely the “conversation v interview” paradigm and it must be a tricky tightrope as a podcaster. I am so glad I found this excellent, inspiring, podcast and if you’re an artist you probably will love it too! I’ve already started recommending it to friends. Thank you!

MantaRay3000Great guests, not as great hostThis is a good podcast for the quality of the guests. They're varied and usually very interesting to hear talk about their specialty. The only downside is the frequent pomposity of the interviewer who is quick to interrupt the guest in the middle of a sentence. So often I'm enjoying a response when his/her train of thought is lost due to Eric Rhoads jumping in to tell us something "fascinating" about himself or his perspective. It both hurts the flow of the podcast and is often annoying.

Brit ArtgirlGreat podcast but audio has got softerI really like these podcasts. I've learned a lot from many of them. However, in recent weeks the sound quality has got worse. If I listen on my iPad I struggle to hear even if the volume is turned up. It never used to be that way. I could barely hear the one with Debra Huse. I listen while painting or making dinner and the ambient sound I am making masks some of the conversation.I wish I had the time to sit and listen while doing nothing but I don't.

marknvickiListen While You PaintI’ve been listening since episode 1 and I’m a better artist because of it! This is such a wonderful, inspectional and educational podcast. You’ll become a better artist and market yourself better because of it.

SnookFanWonderfulThis is one of my favorite podcasts. Very informative and interesting. I particularly enjoyed your podcast on Ken Auster. Thank you for that.

Putz26Not achieving full potentialEric Rhoads is great and the rockstar artists he has on are great. But a very disappointingly low percentage of each show (that already is extremely short on time) is dedicated to diving into their technique, and the ways they approach all the aspects of Plein Air painting. 90% of most episodes are dedicated to stories. I think we need to hear about the work and the mind of the artist, that should be the focus. The third star is for the random episodes when a significant amount of time is dedicated to the above mentioned topics. Another big area of need is far more consistency in audio quality.

IvyQHumor plus insightful conversationSo glad I found this podcast! Perfect combination of humor and insightful conversation. Enjoying the podcasts so much that I just purchased a 3-yr subscription to Plein Air Magazine. Thanks, Eric!

josephine_bPhenomenal. Not just for plein air painters! This podcast has put my understanding of painting on accelerated speed. The name of the podcast may dissuade some from listening and that's a shame. Each episode is full of gems for all painters of all mediums. The host is great (he cuts down to the chase and is warm all at once. The guests are seasoned and I have also found other artists through them. Thank you for sharing this with us.
-
Sage88Great to have anotherLove artist podcasts. Good interview style. Now I have are two art centered podcasts to shorten my drive time, Plein air and savvy painter.
-
HMPyle1066Inspirational!I have found it very inspirational to listen to the struggle of other artists and how they have overcome them in order to continue painting. The episode with Jane Hunt was great!
