JohnMurphy44Fascinating and Useful every timeI’m new to Finding Mastery’s podcast. Since discovering it, I’ve been listening to one after another. The fascinating, science-based insights from top performers across disciplines not only reveals patterns and psychological principles, but also offers actionable, useful information that I or you can apply in your own life - be it professional or personal. Highly recommend for anyone looking to improve any aspect of their world, or just wanting an inside look into the minds of high performers.

paddledudeAlmost a 5I have gotten a lot out of most of the episodes, interesting and informative guests and a much deeper dive into how guests got to where they are, their challenges and vulnerabilities, and their tips for success. Not a 5 because of the sound quality of the AMA episodes - as a hearing impaired person who uses technology to help, I often can’t hear what O’Neill is saying - he needs to use his outside voice or the sound engineers need to punch him up. Otherwise amazing

jodygarryFatty-15!Holey incredible episode and information. Truly astonishing. I went to the website and hope to find a way to purchase the product. It’s incredibly expensive- but I’m sure worth it. Grateful for all your work (the finding mastery pod and this incredible scientist!).

b8hoven8Learning AND Getting HealthierThis podcast has been a 2 for 1…not only have I learned things I can apply directly to my business but I’ve also learned things I can apply to myself…to be healthier and better manage stress! I love this podcast so much I get sad when there isn’t a new episode to listen to!

kgrady57Please stop interrupting!!Michael. Your show is a wonder, truly. But please stop interrupting your guests. I’m listening to your interview with Gabby Reece, and she cannot finish a sentence. I’m only maybe ten minutes in, but it’s just way too jarring to listen to.

Edward Aaron5 StarsFor me, the conversations go beyond sports psychology. These discussions are a reflection of what it means to be human. Thank you for that.

Cassy1599Incredibly insightfulI’ve listen to this podcast for years. Initially, I listened as a “self help junkie” and always walked away with some new perspective, increased motivation or some another “aha”. More recently, I listen as a coach and I’m in absolute awe of Mike’s ability to tease out and get super granular as to what exactly his quests are saying. I appreciate his questions, his knowledge and the incredible guests he brings on the show. I feel like I’m a better person and coach just for listening!

4evrLearningSo good I listened to it againI’ve often shared episodes of Finding Mastery that I found beneficial with my friends and/or family. But this episode with John Mackey was so great that when I went to the YouTube link to share it with those who don’t listen through Apple Podcasts, I ended up listening to the whole episode again 😁 Really inspiring episode

SlockridgeFavorite podcastThis podcast has been monumental in my personal growth. An old manager turned me on to it and in turn, I’ve recommended to everyone I now manage. I’m going to use one of the episodes on my next team training day. This body has work has given me so much language and framework around my own ideas and my identity and integrity. It has made me mindful and confident and competent and changed the way I show up in my world. I can always find something to take away no matter who is interviewed. I love how raw, how vulnerable, how genuine I can be with this body of work. Thank you Mike. Sincerely.

FoodSurferCracking the CodeI keep a list of my favorite podcast episodes so I can go back to them easily when I need insight and inspiration. Many of the conversations on Finding Mastery make the list. That’s because Dr. Gervais continually cracks the code of the greats. He gets them to open up in ways they don’t in other conversations. His genuine curiosity paired with his masterful psychology skills lead to a win for all of us - the guest, the listener and of course, Dr. Gervais. Thanks for cracking the code, it’s making a difference!

Ali SchubackDr. GervaisI have good news for both Lisa (your wife) and you. I heard the Valentine’s episode, and I just wanted to ease her mind. Life is about connection.. My paternal grandparents had quite a love, but they also had many differences the most visual and pertaining to this point was my grandmother(Momo) was 18 years older. My grandfather(Popo) took care of her as she passed. It was a beautiful thing to witness. Popo did fall in love again, and because life is about connection, he even married Grandma Betty. The only grandmother my younger sister (Michelle) ever really knew. Although momo was still in the conversation. So, I just wanted Lisa to hear this and know if she loves you the way I know she does she ease her mind, because you that way too IAlison Schuback

Orithyia.nycInspiring and groundingTruly enjoyed listening to you and Ryan Holiday. The connections discussed about philosophy and mastery in all aspects of one’s life was inspiring and grounding all at once. That’s a great place to be when both are present! Thank you for the conversations, community and wisdom.

1624ACGLet the guest speakI think Dr. Gervais is an exceptional person and have loved hearing other podcasts with him as a guest, particularly Rich Roll’s. He’s wonderfully insightful. But I can’t get through an episode without being frustrated every time he cuts off a guest mid-sentence to prod deeper or coach them. Not sure his guests are signing up to be coached. I think it would behoove Dr. G to cultivate mastery in active listening. Let your guest flourish, like one other review mentioned. Please, for everyone’s sake. Take a cue from Tim Ferris, a true master of listening and interviewing.
-
jrayner23Give the guest a chance to talk…Listening to the animal shelter guy and he is lovely! But the host seems way more interested in guiding the conversation and sounding smart. Give space and time for the guest to flourish. Hour in and the host has talked more than the guest. Frustrating…

AmyHSWGrit, Growth and Failure with Tom CableI found this episode to be so insightful on levels I did not expect. My son in law recently retired from a 12 year career in the NFL, so I was keenly fascinated by hearing a fresh perspective from Tom Cable as I watch my son in law take what he learned from his football career into the reinvention of himself in this next phase of life. My young grandson has a love of hockey and often after his games, he just wants quiet in the car; he wants to process the game and his efforts for himself — without any input from adults or siblings. I’d be sitting with this for a while - thinking how relevant this is for us adults to do too — to be able to sift through our experiences and emotions unfiltered. Then later, to open up and share our own perspectives and be able to take in helpful, meaningful feedback.

BSMDINCAuthentic, With High Regards and IntegrityThought provoking! Questions are asked by Dr. Gervais are unique and the frequently open up a deeper conversation and uncovers layers that may have not be explored before. I have listened to more than half of the podcast episodes and several of them I have saved. I have returned to a handful of the episodes and listened for the second and third time. There consistency and science backed frameworks are invaluable. There is a unique tone and simplicity that makes the conversation relatable to different audience. The humility and calm stands out.

dubs1397Good - with a side of wokeMostly good interviews with some interesting and inspiring folk, but liberal / woke vibes permeate. For example, on a recent listen Michael was talking about how he feels a need to constantly be more aware of his editing and language to be more sensitive (gave the example of asking an audience to “stand up”). I get it, not everyone can, but we CANNOT go overboard with this stuff. I mean, I can’t jump OR dance. Fine! Laugh! Comedy needs to make a serious comeback. Social media is the tool used to virtue signal, use approved / forced language. Michael, rise above this nonsense. You’re incredibly intelligent and seem like a great guy. You can be great without the pandering.

United 39Paul AnnaconeI listened to this probably ten times & will listen another twenty minimally - the insight, not only as a tennis fan but as a teacher of high school students was beyond inspiring. I am thoroughly engrossed in the book now, and love the little anecdotes about Sampras (who I still believe could transcend any era) and Federer were tremendous. The story about Nadal on the practice court was a laugh & a half. I love the manner of questioning in the podcast, and the ability to allow his guest to actually speak - I anxiously await part two of this conversation - thanks for this - I have recommended this podcast to everyone that I meet - beyond insightful.

Bublina2020Intentional, thoughtful and thought provoking podcastLove Finding Mastery! I have listened (at times on and off for a couple of years now), and this show, Mike and his guests do it again and again! So much motivation, inspiration, value, yet humility. True gold, stories of success, failure, grit, inspiration. Mike is a talented psychologist and student of mastery. His framework and questions provide for a podcast like no other. Nobody is asking and unpacking paths of success the way he and this show does. Michael knows and continues to improve his craft of performance psychology, and helps us shed light on and unpack what makes ultra successful folks successful, how they got here, what they have struggled with and more. He doesn’t just passively listen to his guests or run all over the place... His approach is methodical, intentional and balanced to unpack the pillars of success for each and every one of his guests. It’s what this podcast promises to deliver. I appreciate the depth including guests backgrounds. Not many folks can hold my attention the way this show does. Many thanks! Gratitude for the joy and invaluable lessons this pod underscores, the changes and success it ignites and keeping it real all at the same time. Just watch out for the high amount of ads. It’s starting to interfere with the listening experience. I would either do: A/ fewer (even if higher priced Ads) B/ put them upfront, not all over, again and again C/ offer paid membership - to avoid ads for a small fee… I’m sure there is another viable option.

BP WriterFabulous Podcast! Fantastic content, great guests, gems galore!Came across the Finding Mastery podcast and am loving it! Especially the episode with Donnie Ecker, MLB Coach of the Year. This conversation was just so amazing! The candid discussion with you both sharing about your journeys was moving! So many great takeaways! Can’t wait to listen to more episodes! Thank you!

Leanne PritchettRosenbaum is the best! What an indepth, candid and thoroughly enjoyable introduction to your podcast. I have known Michael for the last 3 years, and he is one of the kindest souls I have ever met. Loved hearing his insights and amazing stories. The mutual respect you both showed each other was a wonderful thing to witness. I really got a lot out of this podcast and I look forward to many more episodes to come. Thank you for this 🙏❤️.

Lottie0714Exactly the podcast I’ve been searching for!AMAZING podcast! Thank you for each and everyone of these wonderful interviews. The amount of wisdom in each guest speaker is worth every second. Ted Lasso was one of my absolute favorite episodes ❤️ keep up the great work and thank you.

ChargingDCSpottyI agree with other reviewers who stated that this podcast is a hit or miss. Sometimes it’s filled with virtue signaling and that gets exhausting. Michael also adds a little arrogance to his interviews and can come off as condescending. However, he has some interesting guests which can lead to some great interviews, and that alone makes it worth staying on as a subscriber IMO.

BtotheRandellGems of knowledge!Love the Finding Mastery podcast! So many gems of practical insight and knowledge from Dr. Gervais and his incredible guests - love how it spans so many disciplines, crafts, sports, and businesses. Excited for the next ep every week!

Kevn PACommercialsI get this is a money making deal for you, but the number of commercials breaks the show up too much.

Psalm5110Marshall Goldsmith Ep. reviewWell…well……well… This is certainly weird because I rarely make reviews due to many of the mundane habitual content and discussions that’s becoming a lot more predictable these days, but I must say, this episode alone embodies what “agreeing to disagree” is all about – that’s truly authenticity at its finest, finally. I’ve learn more on this episode than many others combine since both party constantly love agreeing with each other; when deep down challenging an opinion could add some insight and a shift on perspective. That’s where the real learning comes to light. I don’t advocate drama by any means, but it’s ok to disagree with a little fire once in a little because hey….you never know, you may unlearn something that’s been holding you back for so long because “conventional wisdom” say so. Learn, challenge, build and rebuild at times, is the motto. Thank you for a great show! P.S, Chin up Doc, you did great! 🙂💯🙏🏽

Vinnie D #23Dr. Eric Johnson episodeAll of Dr. Mike’s episodes are great. ALL OF THEM. Except this one. Vague, mansplaining, theoretical. Seemed like Dr. Mike was having a hard time pulling insight out of Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson’s insight about having a decision to make between two similar things versus two distinctly different things and that it’s easier to make a decision between two similar things (he makes the example of going to Vegas and going to the mountains) than it is for two distinctly different things, was very unclear about why he felt this was the case; I was hoping Dr. Mike would do the “double click” as he likes to say, but after getting another vague answer, he moved on to the next subject. For me, what makes the episodes great is that the guest is speaking about their experiences in terms of finding mastery and by those specific examples the theories behind the subject become much clearer and more practical for use. It didn’t start to get interesting until Dr. Mike admitted he wasn’t a good decider. But by that point, the episode was almost over. To me, that’s where the episode started. I wanted to hear about how masters of craft make decisions. And how they call audibles and adjust and what they did to improve on making decisions. Clearer insights on how decision architects lead us into making bad decisions and what we can do to be more aware of that.

Cervelo61Jon Kabat-ZinnGreat job by Dr. Gervais in an unbelievable interview with Jon. A must listen for the insights around what it means to be human and the power and potential of mindfulness and meditation. Thank you

markhoroszowskiOnce a fan, now disappointed — too many ads and archaic examplesTo be sure, there are some impressive guests that come to this show. But it seems that a focus on quality has now become a focus on quantity, I’m guessing for ad revenue, as the number of intrusive, long, and forced sales pitches/ads has gotten ridiculous. 4 of the first 6 minutes are an advertisement, and then they keep coming every 15min… some of the products that are advertised also seem completely counter to Gervais’s own mission. I’ve also been disappointed in the interview quality… as example, in the show featuring Professor Zimbardo, Gervais was praising Zimbardo for his work from the past that included invalidated and non-repeatable research as well as harmful research practices that have since been shown to be wrong. Gervais has a big platform with a really trusted persona, and it’s sad to see it used to promote capitalism and in some case, archaic research and business practices.

AdventureRunGirlMust ListenLove listening and now trying to listen to all of the episodes I missed! Incredible interviews with a diverse range of guests, always with strong knowledge and inspiration.

Ibra2239Amazing content!!!Absolutely love this podcast! You are delivering fantastic messages on very useful topics! Thank you for what you do!
-
3nikkiFocus on the meat of the matterThe podcaster spends a lot of time inquiring about the background of the guest. When the guest is someone like Ryan Holiday we already know enough about him. He then goes into academic arguments such as who is better such as Seneca, Epititus, etc. This is such a waste of time. Make it practical such as what is stoicism, how can we use it in the modern day to reduce stress, etc. Such wasted potential and time!
-
TevamanUnlistenableI tried to listen but the host talked too much, introductions were way too long with the host blathering on. I want to hear the guest, not the host.

FittswrightMotivation and inspiration to be the best version of yourselfThis podcast is a great mix of motivation and inspiration. Every episode is filled with valuable information that I can apply to some aspect of my life. As a wife, daughter, sister, mother, friend, flight nurse and entrepreneur, I sometimes wonder why I continue to play all of these rolls and hats. Each episode adds value and inspiration that I can add to my different roles and callings in life. I was truly touched by the last interview with the ER physician. I am not a physician, but as a flight nurse being called to anything and everything in hospital or at the scene of an accident, I am looked up to for the care of critically ill patients. Decisions have to be made in minutes or even seconds because lives are in your hands. As a nurse, you do not judge any patient for their actions, but treat them all with dignity and compassion. My heart was touched on the idea of looking at every patient scenario as an opportunity to grow and learn as a clinician. I truly enjoy this podcast and look forward to many more episodes to come!

savvy_entrepreneurGems in every episodeGoing deep on mastering craft and life! I’m obsessed with personal development and this show is full of gems in every episode. It’s a great way to learn from and be inspired by the masters.

BDo4RealFinding Mastery is MasterfulI started listening to this podcast after hearing Dr. Gervais on the “Reinvention Project with Jim Rome” podcast recently. The interviews are insightful, delightful and impactful every time. Michael has a way of getting the most out of his guests and keeping things on track while also not limiting or imposing boundaries on them and their stories. I just finished tue Baggio Husidic story from 2015 and I was mesmerized. Michael, if you read this, please consider a follow up with him now that he retired from the MLS and has children. That would be a good one! Thank you for this podcast.

AVincentLSome great conversations butWow, Dr. Gervais has some really great conversations with some amazing people. You can really feel the synergy between him and the guest in some of these episodes, which is a testament to his curiosity and interviewing skills. However, I would really love to hear him have a guest on that pushes back on some of his own ideas and beliefs (especially about some of the current issues). On the one hand the podcast is about being curious and learning about what makes people the best at what they do, and on the other hand he often has surface level conversations with people that only confirm his own beliefs about important topics, that he doesn’t appear to be well educated on.
