I’m so bummed to see that the Resmaa Menakem was interviewed on this podcast whose book and information in trauma are based in pseudoscience and an inaccurate understanding of science topics like epigenetics, which leads to completely inaccurate conclusions about trauma and how to treat it.

Truly found this very moving. Highly recommend.

Wow!!!! I was riveted to this season and was tearful many times as you shared this family’s story. My favorite episode was #7….. such deep profound sharing and honesty.

Omg! This was both suspense-fully and romantically written in such a way that while i was listening i felt like I was moving from each time period smoothly. Like wow !! Just amazing !!!! Every episode was vibrant, lively, and AUTHENTIC. Aunt Val recollection of Antonio, Anita, her childhood, and all the other events was so descriptive and again AUTHENTIC!!!! Yall did that !!! And the reading of the diary at the end … *chefkiss* This is award winning…. 🏆 God Bless you all ❤️.

Quality podcast, but I have to listen to it again! The only hero of this story is Antonio! Incredible human being! Thoroughbred to his soul! I’m pretty much angry with everyone else! The irresponsibility of everyone here is mind blowing! The failure of CHILDREN HERE IS ASTOUNDING! I’m trying hard to view this all through different lenses!

The story is heartbreaking in so many ways, but is also multidimensional, so I understood both the pain & the perseverance of many. This was a tribute & a love story + so many other things. Antonio overcame & he compartmentalized throughout life, but took the time to “unpack” throughout the telling of his story; I hope that he knows he inspired other to do the same.

This podcast is a beautiful sort of archeological dig into blackhood, where it comes together in haunting and beautiful ways that most black people will identify with. There is someone in each episode that I can identify with as a person who I know and have loved. I pray that peace abides now and forever for Antonio and his Aunty.

The healing episode is absolutely amazing. Antonio was able to share and to share that with us, truly beautiful. And the birthday party at the end 😭😭

I’m only on the first episode but I believe the host will take great care in how she reports on the life of her sister. I gasped when Ms. Tonya shared that the city buried her sister without notifying the family. Heartbreaking. You did a great job with a tough subject. I only listened because it was you and it was more than a whodunit. Many podcasts addressing murder don’t go deep with the living family members and the mental health implications into the future. The therapy piece was a wonderful surprise. So needed💓. Thank you!

As a Detroit native, this feels like listening to my own family. Such care and honor is shown by Tonya through expert story telling. Antonio’s resilience shines and my heart breaks for all he has endured. May Anita rest well knowing her legacy is not forgotten. Well done to everyone involved in this season.

The network of lives who deeply care, uncover extraordinary lives. The Interconnected web of people’s lives experiencing hope, grit, disappointment, resilience, and love in a city which simultaneously goes through turmoil, paving waves of courage and eventually a path to justice. I was riveted. This uncovers the trauma and the monumental loving bonds and new understanding of family. It is a transformative listen.

Genuinely can’t understand the one star reviews for season 6. Very emotional to listen to. I can’t imagine a more respectful approach to uncovering a true crime case than the actual loved ones of a victim working together to discover the truth. This is honestly the closest the genre can get to outright avoiding potential exploitation.

I appreciate the bravery and transparency it took for you and your family to share such a tragic story. Life took so much from you all. But, your story is not just one of hardship but resiliency. Thank you for opening your lives to your listeners. 💜

The care with which Tonya Mosley tells this story is what podcasts need. I’m not sure it’s fair to characterize this season as “true crime”— it feels so much deeper than that. Regardless, I’ve been a podcast junkie for years and constantly crave stories told by people who are most affected by them— aka not typically a white woman living in Brooklyn. Everything about this season reflects the best of what a podcast can be. Tonya is AMAZING at her craft and I hope she gets many more opportunities to tell us stories.

It's a universal story of American struggle that we rarely hear with nuance and grace. This podcast is really well done and the family members are so brave to share personal stories that hard to talk about!

This is a well produced podcast, and beautifully told story about loss, family secrets, trauma, and the search for truth. Some reviewers have suggested that this podcast doesn’t do Anita justice but I can’t disagree more - this is a story about Anita’s turbulent life and mysterious death but it’s also about the impact her life, death, and even imagined presence had on the people she was related to. Tonya is an amazing guide through the journey, and her compassion for others is inspiring, she must have a strong spiritual practice that gives her wisdom. Her response when asked about her father was like a teaching to me. I will listen to this podcast again and recommend it highly!

Being a Detroit native, made this series so relatable! I love that the story was presented with so much respect and care and in a non-judgemental way. My heart aches for Anita and her son. So much tragedy in their lives.

Tonya Mosley is one of my favorite journalists. I love how she weaves in relevant cultural references and humor while telling serious stories. Her voice, writing and interview skills are top-notch. My 20+ year bestie is originally from Detroit. I have only been there once, but I am intrigued by it and its people. Tonya is now part of my Detroit obsession, and we’re besties in my head.

A very well made podcast with a moving story, which is beautifully told by host Tonya Mosley. Her perspective as the storyteller is a truly fascinating one— as she is both a part of the story and apart from the story. I applaud how she is able to face some hard truths and share her vulnerability, while also giving voice to a unique and pivotal time in both her family history and the history of this country.

This is much more than true crime. A fascinating story told by a talented storyteller.

For this to be a podcast about Tonya’s missing sister it sure doesn’t seem to be…each episode has somehow ended up being about Tonya and her life. I get they are sisters but we are atleast 5 episodes in and it’s all about Tonya and her broken home creating father. No closer to knowing what happened to Anita than we were on Ep1. Wanna love it, but I think Tonya has too many unresolved emotions towards her father and his illegitimate children to adequately handle this topic. She’s not doing it any service.

Listening to this podcast I can tell that Tonya Mosley is an impressive journalist. She has a wonderful way with words and paints a vivid picture. Although the subject matter is difficult, Tonya displays the humanity of all those involved and tells the story with respect.

Very interesting and well done. Finding family and working on the puzzle of what has happened is challenging but rewarding. My family has similar gaps and helped me to appreciate what Ms. Mosley and others close to Anita have done.
