Addicting like potato chips! Treat yourself to just “one” episode, i dare you! You’ll look forward to new episodes & happily spend many hours reaching back into Johns’ bag O’ archived treats. Relax & enjoy a second helping because these audio snacks are guilt free, only expanding your mind or broadening your horizons not your waist line. GREAT SHOW!!

No do ad is off the chart bad
Sorry Jon but the ‘no do’ add is over the top obnoxious and not in line with your standards

    Dirty Dancing!!!!
What a jewel of a story! I had no idea of the background to this great movie! Yes, I am one of those adult women who saw it over and over again. I used to clean house to it, dancing along. Great podcast!!!!

    Another political ad
I used to enjoy this podcast but it has become more and more right wing, both in comments and topics. Most comments are done slyly, but it’s clear which way this podcaster leans and the influence he’s trying to peddle.

    Too biased and elementary
I used to love this podcast until I listened to his Shark episodes… I’m not a Shark lover but these podcasts were a farce. He kept saying he wanted to give both sides of the story- but then he actually talks about a state getting on the “shark protection bandwagon”. That lost me and I had to delete the episode and unfollow. Let’s be clear- anyone can do a podcast these days. If one is talking history then it is vital to be professional and actually give all sides without bias. Once you cross that line- even with the subject of Sharks- you start to sound like any other hack. Sadness…. I’m still stunned that it was a Shark episode that made me drop this one… wow.

    Top Notch Episode!
Thank you for the fun and enlightening episode on idioms. John Haggadorn is the “cat’s meow” as both a researcher and narrator! I appreciate his sense of curiosity and wonder and share his love of the English language. Thank you for making my day! Catherine

    Great show
I wasn’t a very good student in school but I wish I had this podcast then. You’re peaked my interest in history.
  • RockinRick8185
    Excellent
A professionally made podcast that keeps listeners engaged. A pleasant surprise to find a podcaster that doesn’t try to be a comedian and or bore us with 20 minutes of what they’ve done since their last podcast.

Blair Mountain Battle and Forgotten Heroes Part 1
John, the Battle of Blair Mountain was gripping. I was astonished at how the state of West Virginia and the coal industry were allied against the mine workers. I am so heartened by the trials of the leaders of the miners union where most were set free. The updates to 2018 mean that the battle is not over between big $$$ and the average man. Great episode. As for the Forgotten Heroes Part 1, I was thrilled y the stories especially about the sled dogs getting the serum across Alaska. I never heard of that event I am aware now that the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race celebrates that heroic run. Your narration keeps me glued to my iMac. Thank you John

    Authors politics bleed through
I like the information given. I do not like the fact that this author talks about modern politics. Keep your politics out of my entertainment. i’m trying to learn about cool historical things not get upset about current presidential races.

    Great 1001 Pod casts
Just listened to two great pod casts on 1001 Heroes Legends Histories and Mysteries … one about the making of the movie Casablanca and one called ‘We Had it All’ about Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. So interesting and informative! Jon continues to deliver great stories in all his 1001 podcasts. Good variety that continues to entertain!
  • katez192847567483
    Plagiarized.
I went to look up more information about the Hesse Crown Jewels Heist after listening to the podcast episode about it, and found that the host read most of the episode word-for-world from articles published by the National WWII Museum, without crediting those articles or their author, Kali Martin. Unbelievable, deceitful, and ironic that a podcast about a historic case of theft contains… well, theft.

    Twin Sisters
Great podcast! Slight pronunciation correction: Goliad is pronounced “goal-ee-add” with emphasis on the “goal” sound.

If you like politics in your history podcasts…
For the most part I have enjoyed Jon Hagadorns podcast, as long as he sticks to the subject at hand. However I have noticed on several episodes he injects his conservative politics into the discussion. Also, I feel he invites certain authors that join his podcasts, that expound and support his conservative politics.

Rogers Rangers and the Silver Madonna
Wow. Wanted to know more after this episode and, before looking for more detailed sources I went to the Wikipedia page only to discover the very same text from the podcast! Basically the podcast was someone reading the Wikipedia article aloud. Verbatim. If only there was a name for that. Oh yeah. Plagiarism. What a waste of time. I can read Wikipedia faster than this person can read it out loud.

    Great John Wayne Story
Very interesting podcast about John Wayne’s life. Especially liked how you showed him to be a real person and not just a movie icon. To add to your story, I wanted to tell you about a friend of mine who was an extra in the movie The Horse Soldiers. He was one of the boys from the Virginia Military Academy. My friend told me that every day at lunch time that John Wayne would sit down on the ground with the boys and tell them stories. This was a very special memory for him.
  • Older and heavier
Wish John Wayne was here today.
Great story about “The Duke”. John Wayne was a real guy, warts and all, but he was a Man and a good one at that. He influenced a generation of good men. However the pendulum has swung the other way, and now Wayne and his ilk bring out the shrill cries from todays “social warriors”. He epitomized the ideals of a society, though that society has passed, there are still lessons to be learned from a study his life and work. Keep up the good work Jon!

    Far right revisionist history
Listen to a real history podcast instead. This has the politics and the accuracy of a fringe Reddit thread.

    Tornado
Thank you for sharing the information on Tornadoes! I live in South Central Ky! I have seen the destruction an F3 can do and I am a bit more prepared to survive after hearing what an F5 can do! Ultimately I am in Gods hand!

It was King William’s war not King Phillip’s war. You’re off by over a decade. Also, your presentism is uninspiring. Will not listen again.

Pure gold (just like that train)
One of the best podcasts ever. I love the diversity of this show. One question why did you change the cover thing? I like the old one more, but that doesn’t change the quality of the show!!! Absolute perfection!! Thank you!!

So much background noise. Stop shuffling papers while the guest is talking!
Listening to Blackbeard episode and I am going to give up. Story is amazing but there is so much paper shuffling background noise! Impossible to listen.
  • Conderium
    Top Notch!
The topics are well researched and delivered in such a thought provoking manner, it’s easy to listen and stay mentally engaged with. Jon is a great interviewer who asks good questions as if he too is intrigued with every interviewee and the topic discussed.

A great way to spend your time!
As a college student and full-time employee, I rarely get a chance to sit down and physically watch something. 1001 give me the ability to be physically active at work and still freshen up on my history knowledge. Thank you Jon for being an incredible host!!!

    Escape from Dennemora
It was difficult to listen to this podcast because of the obvious bias of the story writer. The story could have been told much better without all the political commentary. I listen to podcasts, because I don’t appreciate political commentary from anyone, especially in the toxic political atmosphere of today. I am reluctant to listen to any more podcasts on this site given the story teller’s obvious bias. It’s one thing to criticize short comings in the prison system; it’s something else to keep making sniping comments on the political actors. It is not appreciated, and it is totally unnecessary to the telling of the story. I expected better from this podcast.

    Truth & Sanity
Sticks to historical fact. I listen to many historical podcast on the same subjects John covers. John by far goes into more depth. John truly is an American hero. Political correctness is for those that want to white wash history. This incentivizes the ‘learned’ a context to change history. Every historical figure you can make a villain or a hero. Christopher Columbus is a perfect example. He has extensive journals he kept and if you want the true story read hid journals. Not from someone that wants to change “Columbus Day” to “Indigenous Day” because he’s a mass murder. This is a perfect example where John would cover the highs and lows of Columbus, not a historian that has skewed privilege view where they drink their $12 Starbucks pick-me up and watch nonsensical IQ reducing tik-toks point of view. Keep packing the TRUTH JOHN!!!!!!!!!

    Still a fan
As always, love these shows, Jon. Your 1001 podcasts are a family favorite. My two sons (ages 13 and 11) especially enjoy the history they learn. Thank you! Keep up the good work!

Excellent stories and very entertaining. Once you get started you will find it hard to pause it when needed. Johns presentation and attention to the details when telling the stores makes the stories come to life. Ive shared this podcast with several friends and each time they thanked me for the suggestion saying they have gotten hooked too. Great job John.
